Question 1: When did you start writing?

I’m not the stereotypical writer that has been crafting short stories since I was a little kid. I seriously considered journalism as a college major, and have always enjoyed putting my opinion down in writing, but hadn’t made a serious attempt or goal out of writing until 2020 when the pandemic canceled a vacation. I decided to write a novel that I’d written the plot to a few years prior. It had come to me in a dream.

Question 2: What comes first, the plot or characters?

I guess plot? It’s usually a tiny spark, a little question. Who goes on the adventure and how the adventure play out are intertwined as I type it up.

Question 3: How many books have you written? Which is your favourite?

8 full manuscripts, tons more ideas bouncing around or partially started. How can you choose a favorite?

Question 5: Where do you get your inspiration?

Most of my books to-date have started from something a dream. I can have some pretty crazy dreams. Some are purely from me asking “what if…” Influenced by people and situations in my life, I can bring it all to life.

Question 6: Can you share with us something about the book that isn’t in the blurb?

SEEDER SHADOW WARS all started after I woke up from a dream. All I remembered was dandelion seeds drifting in the wind, and there was somehow something human about them, as well as a sense of family, urgency, and danger. Right away, I knew I wanted to create new fantasy races instead of revisiting the same tropes we always see. The Seeders were born—the girls fashioned after dandelions, the boys after thistles. And their enemies, the Ivies.

Question 7: Tell us about the process for coming up with the cover.

I spent countless hours over Christmas break being antisocial, playing around with my own designs. Then when I got more serious, I paid a professional to do them and they’re about 10,000x better than what I could ever do, lol. He did a great job tweaking the design with all of my picky feedback. We’ve already got covers for books 2 & 3 in the series, and I plan to get a cohesive book with others down the line.

Question 8: Are you working on anything at the present you would like to share with your readers about?

I have a hard time stepping away from this book’s universe, but I do have a book I’ve started about magic in a cooking setting (another dream, plus I have a culinary arts degree), as well as a couple of sci-fi stories, a YA dystopian romance, adult contemporary romance…. All. The. Things. Oh yeah, and imagine Santa Claus, but he’s a warlock, with fairies instead of elves … and they’re only doing good deeds as part of a prison sentence. There’s romance there, too. There is almost always romance 😉

Question 9: What book is currently on your bedside table?

3 proof copies of SEEDER SHADOW WARS from the printer? lol. Other than that, I just ordered a paperback from another indie author to read. ‘These Clockwork Stars’ by Misty Malkasian. I discovered her as a fellow authortuber.

Question 10: What do you like to do when you are not writing?

I’m a bit of a workaholic when I’m passionate about something. So I do a heck of a lot of learning about the publishing industry (self-publishing is A LOT of work if you want to break the low-quality stigma.) But when I can pry myself away from my laptop, I love doing escape rooms (even designing them) with friends.

Question 11: Share something your readers wouldn’t know about you.

I’ve included my knowledge of blood types in a couple of books. I’m O-, the universal donor. I think it’s crazy that most people don’t actually know their own blood type.

Question 12: Pick your favorite

Coffee or Tea

Movie or Book

Coke or Pepsi

Morning Person or Night Owl
