The Breakup Plan: An Enemies to Lovers Romance Novel (The Plan Series Book 1 by Elle Vaughn

Rating: 5 out of 5.

He’s everything she hates and she’s everything he can’t stand.

Elliot has just made the list of America’s hottest bachelors. A successful business mogul who has made a name for himself in Silicon Valley, Elliot’s life is just about perfect—that is, until an incriminating photo appears in a tabloid magazine. If anyone discovers who the other person in the photo is, his career will be ruined.

Penny’s life has been anything but charmed. Struggling to make ends meet, she’s determined to make a better life for herself. Desperate to rescue her little brother from the same troubled life she grew up in, Penny will do whatever it takes to make sure he’s safe. Now that she’s starting an internship at a large corporation, she can only hope this is the start of something better.

And that’s when an asshole named Elliot Faulkner makes her an offer she can’t refuse.

My Review

Penny’s life hasn’t been easy. She has had to do things and see things no kid should, but she found her motivation in her little brother in all the bad. Along the way, she meets Elliot. She also fought her way to a better life for them both.

Elliot has had a hard life and has hated himself for too many years. He has a tragic past but, as a teenager, rebelled hard. He finally turned it around, but he also shut down, not caring about anyone but himself. Until he meets Penny.

They do not meet for the first time on good terms, but it is pretty funny. Penny has a lot going on in her life. She becomes his intern, and things don’t quite go as planned with her quitting. Elliot comes up with an idea to keep himself out of trouble. Penny accepts, but she has her own reasons. I like that she wants to help her brother.

There are moments in this book where we glimpse a gentleman from Elliot, but they seem few and far between. Penny is a mystery to him and annoying. As they get closer, this book gets steamy, and Elliot is doing things he swore he would never do. This book gets exciting as Penny finds herself in trouble.

This book was totally a new adult romance until this then turned into more of a romantic suspense. Wow, I’m floored by the adrenaline-rushing action-packed parts. I’m so glad when it turns around and resolves. I love the Cinderella story in the book with the twists of suspense and action. I liked watching the change in Elliot as their deal progressed. I can’t wait to read more about these two characters and what comes next for them.

This story started out intriguing with her mouthy attitude and him being a pompous jerk. But I loved the story of them falling for each other despite the trials in their lives. He really does become an amazing book boyfriend, even if it is fake for a while. It was truly romantic. I enjoyed their adventures and her honesty. I loved his determination near the end of the book. I also enjoyed how the author ramped up this fairy tale into a suspenseful story. Although parts of that may need a trigger warning due to the explicit descriptions. This book was steamy and definitely for a mature audience.
