Welcome to Evermore Academy where the magic is dark, the immortals are beautiful, and being human SUCKS.
My name is Summer Solstice and this is going to be my year.
Except, in the Everwilde, nothing ever goes according to plan. When the Spring Court heir joins the academy, he traps me in a cutthroat game of bargains and deception in an effort to ruin Valerian.
Worse, someone is using an army of darklings to gather magical items that could raise the Darken and change the fate of the Fae courts–and the human world–forever.
Forces are gathering. Sides are being chosen.
To stand any chance of saving humanity, I must finally accept the soulbond with Valerian.
But what if he’s not truly capable of love?
My Review
I’m excited to join Summer for her second year as a human at Evermore Academy for the Fae. Summer is as bad as a heroine this year, but she has conflicting emotions about her soulmate bond with the prince and what it means. He seems to be on his swooniest behavior.
I love the academy setting again, and the friends and new foes keep this book intriguing. Angst and chemistry are off the charts in this book. I’d love wasn’t hard enough with hunts, tests, bullies at school, and of course, the forbidden mating. Let’s also add a gauntlet and make the characters fight for their right to protect the Fae. Summer is a badass, but I swear she has the worst luck, but her unexpected magic is pretty cool. I have been, so I got the book. I haven’t been writing a very good review. I don’t know that this one is better than the first, but it is more paranormal.
Admits the action and adventure; there isn’t much steam in this book; it is very YA. However, there is a lot of academy, some heartbreak, and some cruel torture. I like how far summer has come from just a human girl in a paranormal world to one hack of a heroine mortal shadow. I love that this isn’t instalove but a slow-burn ya romance.
The final quest doesn’t end exactly as I thought it would, leading our heroine into more peril and despair as she must sacrifice her future, hopes, and dreams to save her lover and friends. I’m glad the author brought in a new antagonist in this book, as none of this would have worked with the mean girl club. This book ends on a cliffhanger with a promise of vengeance, and our Human heroine is not exactly human anymore.
This young adult fantasy read is more of an academy soap opera with dangerous trials, corrupt politics, and star-crossed lovers. Summer is a formidable human heroine fighting for herself, her friends, and her right to choose. I love the storyline overall, and the antagonist is someone you will love to hate. This book is mostly fantasy, set in a magical society of Fae with dark themes and surreal landscapes. I can’t wait to see what happens next after that cliffhanger and twisted ending.
