Souls shrouded in darkness…
Stuck working as a barmaid for her demanding father, Anna dreams of adventure. When mysterious strangers enter the bar, she overhears they seek Zancrela, an ancient fortress filled with treasure and a magical library. Taking her chance, she offers to guide them. The conditions: deliver Zancrela or die.
As they journey through the wilderness, she discovers their secret: they are vampires. And most view her as food. One takes interest in her and her heart dares to hope, but it might not be enough to change her fate. Will Anna find Zancrela or become a vampire morsel?
My Review
I enjoyed this story. The writing was terrific; this story was well written. The general storyline hooked me so fast, and I love the paranormal aspects of it without it being overly done. The addition of a human with a vampire troupe while they were on a quest for a hidden castle was a fantastic and included action adventure that left you spellbound. The author had just enough romance to keep me entertained, and I was hooked to see what would happen next. I love how this story ended and can’t wait to read more about Anna, Victor, or anyone else in this family of vampires. I read this book at the author’s request and am leaving an honest review.
This book has many older English words that may not be used anymore, but the story is interesting. Anna is a bar maiden in her father’s tavern. She hopes to see the world. A group of fine travelers come in and intrigue her with this discussion of a mythical hidden fortress. A decision is made, and so is her journey with the troupe of unique travelers. Oh, this journey gets more arduous and adventurous as she discovers her companions are paranormal. I find it interesting that the paranormals in this book are less creature-like for being vampires and more human than expected.
Victor, the leader of the paranormal troupe, seems to have a crush on Anna, the human woman who is helping them find their way to this hidden castle. Omg, I didn’t think that was going to happen in the book, and then just as everything is perfect, the author throws in some nail-biting suspense. I won’t tell you how this ends; you need to read and enjoy this one for yourself. I love the end of this book, and I hope there is more about Anna and Victor in future books. Anna has some amazing gifts in this book and a truly relatable, friendly personality.
