We were never supposed to fall in love. We did it anyway.
New York Times bestselling author, S.L. Scott, crafts her signature heartfelt style into an epic and emotional, second chance, standalone romance.
I have three goals: graduate from an Ivy League university, get into medical school, and follow in my father’s well-established footsteps. Everything was going exactly as planned until the local bad boy was delivered to my doorstep. Literally.
From the moment we meet, my old life becomes unrecognizable, but I have no regrets. I’m utterly captivated by him. His smirk. His heart. His sharp wit. He pushes me to live, to be wild, to pursue the dream I’ve always hidden inside.
To the rest of the world, we make no sense.
Me, the girl from the gilded New England coast.
Joshua, from the small city of New Haven.
To us, we’re destiny.
Together, we had it all. Desperately. Madly. In love.
Until we didn’t.
One tragic night changed everything.
This book starts off with the readers meeting Chloe, a college student who is very OCD, studies alot and mature but doesn’t play. Then we meet Joshua, a self-described bad boy who works at a diner, goes to college and is a total flirt. Chloe and Joshua have a few exciting encounters, and things begin to heat up. I really enjoyed how carefree and loving the characters are to each other. They were easy to relate to and dream about. This book is a true romance.
This book will elicit tears during the tribulation Josh and Chloe face. But of course, something has to go wrong, and wow, did it become a roller coaster fast. Can they overcome it?
At this point, I’m thinking this book is not gonna end happy. I mean, I’m crying about the outcomes of an unexpected disaster that had a considerable impact on their relationship. I was shocked to read on and see it come full circle. They are older, more mature, and understanding in the second half of this love story, and yes, it ends happily.
The author did a fantastic job of creating a romance that was swoon-worthy, relatable, and exciting. I didn’t enjoy the roller coaster part of the story, but I’m glad it leads it full circle and back to the love that is palatable through the pages. The author did a fantastic job of maturing her characters as the story progresses, including some extra steamy scenes. This story is a classic romance with some heart-wrenching thrown in, but of course, fate or destiny always wins, and sometimes you just have to let it. In their case, even the years that separated them and the reasons don’t hold back the heart and soul they find in each other. I also thought the author did a great idea of incorporating some quotes and knowledge into the book.
This book is a standalone romance and a fantastic book from my #20booksofsummer21 reading list . I really enjoyed the romance and look forward to reading more by this Author in the future.
