A heart-wrenching, tortured hero romance, featuring a broken man in need of redemption and the lively heroine who sees through the madness to the man worth saving.
He was lost when I found him…
Everyone says that Cary Clarke, former rock star and reclusive music producer, is crazy.
That he fell apart after the death of his best friend.
That he shut everyone out and locked himself away.
That nothing matters to him anymore but music.
Maybe they’re right.
I don’t even know why he let me in.
I was only supposed to meet him once. But then once turned into so much more.
When I look into his eyes, there’s just something about this man I can’t walk away from.
And the deeper I get into his world… the less I ever want to leave.
Maybe I’m crazy to fall for a man whose heart is already broken.
Maybe I should’ve known this could only end in more heartbreak—for both of us.
But when you find something this precious in the darkness, it’s only natural to want to bring it out into the light… no matter what it costs you.
My Review
This story is about Cary. We met him in Xander’s book, but he is very reclusive. This story goes back to why before that was the case. Cary is very eccentric, as you read in the first chapter of this book. This book gives the reader a deeper dive into Cary’s mental and emotional problems. He is shocked when Taylor comes into his life. Of course, they fall for each other, and things are still weird, but they both seem happy. Till a fateful day sends it all downhill. This part of the story was heartbreaking and super sad. Taylor doesn’t do well, and it shows.
The reader doesn’t get Cary’s perspective the entire book, but it does shift back and forth without interruption. As things come to a precipice, Cary realized with some help from Ashley that he misses Taylor. He also admits he needs help to fight his issues. Taylor is super brave and stunned me with some of her choices and actions. Things get better between her and Cary, but of course, now that his issues are transparent, she doesn’t give up on him. He does start to overcome and make choices to live instead of hiding.
This book isn’t the typical romance, but it deals with a lot of Cary issues. I loved watching Cary overcome his problems. I also loved how strong Taylor was in the face of those issues. She makes some hard choices and hard pushes, but it results fantastically. Don’t be surprised if you are in tears reading this. It is an emotional book.
