Rating: 4 out of 5.

I own Halloween in this town, but the new girl is giving me a run for my money.

I hire her to organize and run the haunted tours through the old mansions I own in New Orleans.

Not of my own free will, I might add.

I have no other options.

She thinks I’m a stiff rich jerk with an attitude problem.

At least I’m not the psycho who’s obsessed with all things horror.

Or keeping secrets.

Because that’s the kicker.

As soon as I start to see past the jump scares and her obsession with spooky and weird, I see her.

She’s running from something.

Someone.

With her by my side we’ll make this Hallow’s Eve Festival the greatest event this town has ever seen.

The trick will be doing it without falling in love with her.

And the treat?

Well, she’ll just have to come a little closer and find out.

Every good girl deserves a bad boy. ~Weston

My Review

I picked up this book because it had been sitting on my TBR for a while, it’s Halloween themed, AND it checks off Louisiana for my USA Reading Challenge. So why not jump right in?

Tallulah loves history and all things horror, so she drags her roommate along on a haunted house tour in the Garden District. But Tallulah has a haunted history of her own involving an ex and her parents. I can only imagine the trauma she’s carrying from those experiences!

Niall is the grumpy billionaire who owns the mansion featured on the tour. The story jumps forward a few months to give us his perspective. He works in real estate, specializing in buying old, neglected properties and restoring them to their former glory. And guess who he hires as the project manager for his latest big renovation? Tallulah! The job even requires her to live on-site.

And just like that, we have chemistry, a forbidden challenge, and forced proximity!

Talk about instant steam! This story doesn’t waste much time before Tallulah and Niall get to know each other intimately. I loved watching their relationship develop as the story pulled me in. The haunted history and spooky atmosphere don’t disappear after the initial setup, either. The Halloween vibes continue as the story moves forward.

The opposites-attract dynamic and workplace complications also play a role in their relationship rather than being forgotten along the way.

Overall, this was a cute, steamy, Halloween themed romance that helped me check off Louisiana on my USA Reading Challenge.
