My Review

Delilah is a big city girl moving to the small town of Sunflower, Montana, and watching her adapt to the wide-open spaces, wildlife, and small-town life is honestly pretty entertaining. She is quick-witted, funny, and definitely not used to this new lifestyle. I also loved her bestie, Daisy. Delilah is a traveling contract lawyer, which gives her the freedom to move around, but she never expected this small Montana town to start feeling like home.

Ranger is newly divorced, although the divorce was amicable, and their situation makes things feel a little complicated. He is also one of the hottest men in this small town. Ranger is mature, caring, and has a teenage stepdaughter he loves and continues to show up for. The overall vibe of this story is a little forbidden, a lot rustic, and full of those cozy small-town feelings.

This may be a slow-burn romance with an uncertain ending, but the found family, rugged characters, and pop culture references kept me hooked. I loved how the author incorporated the Montana setting without becoming overly descriptive. But honestly, the reference to those classic shirtless book covers had my full attention. At this point, there is mostly kissing and a whole lot of convincing themselves that they don’t need a relationship, a fling, or anything beyond their professional boundaries.

Ranger may be deep, sexy, and caring, but he is also a father figure, and his responsibilities matter to him. Still, Ranger is such a goner. He totally falls first, and I loved watching him try to figure out what to do with those feelings.

I also adored that his ex is still in the picture and happens to be his best friend. Between his parents, his ex, and his daughter, Delilah doesn’t stand much of a chance against the pull of Ranger’s life and the people who love him. Of course, they try to convince themselves that casual works. I mean, something is better than nothing, right? Their chemistry and banter, though? Chef’s kiss.

Delilah’s biggest dilemma becomes whether it is really Ranger or the town itself that is bringing comfort to her soul. That is honestly a solid late-night thought. I also appreciated that when the story became steamy, the intimate moments felt purposeful and connected to their relationship instead of just being thrown in for the sake of it.

The final days of this sweet romance slip by so quickly, and then tragedy strikes, forcing Delilah to make what feels like exactly the wrong choice. The heartbreak from that decision stretches through the final chapters, and I was sitting there hoping so hard for that happy-for-now ending to this incredible love story.

But honestly, the geology references in this book absolutely hooked me too. I mean, give me a golden retriever farmer/cowboy, a big city girl, and an epic romance, and I am already invested. This book is sweet and tender, mature for the most part, steamy, and absolutely worms its way into your heart.

The story ends sweetly and beautifully, which fits the rest of this mature love story perfectly. I loved that many of the reasons keeping these characters apart eventually became some of the reasons they found their way back together.

The small-town charm, found family, and variety of characters and their own stories made this such a beautiful read. I’m so excited the authors sent me an ARC copy. I know it isn’t out yet, but this is definitely one that should be on your TBR.

This was a sweet and delightful read that I really enjoyed, even if I don’t think it will be one I’ll personally reread. It’s the kind of book I’m happy to pass along to the Little Free Library so another reader can enjoy this charming small-town romance too.
