He’s a tattooed shirtless bad boy. My best friend’s brother. And the jerk on the other side of my bed.
I didn’t know bridesmaid was code for babysitter for the bride’s brother, but if that’s what my best friend needs of me for her dream wedding to go off without a hitch, that’s what I’ll do.
Even if Theo Monroe has been a pain in my rear since third grade.
Even if he should be responsible enough to not wreak havoc at his sister’s destination wedding.
Even if it means we have to share a hotel room in Hawaii, which might be the final duty that breaks me.
Not only does Theo know exactly how to push my buttons, but he never wears clothes, he’s hiding a litter of kittens in his room, and he keeps showing up with fresh-baked cookies that seemingly come from nowhere.
Also?
I have no idea what’s up with the tension between him and the groom.
Or why he’s so proud of the world’s strangest wedding gift.
Or why I suddenly want to know what makes him tick. The story behind his tattoos. How he can afford to rent a convertible in Hawaii. And if maybe all of that utter frustration and irritation I’ve felt for him for years is suppressed attraction that a good girl like me isn’t supposed to feel for the biggest bad boy of Snaggletooth Creek.
But I do know one thing.
When I find out his biggest secret and the answer to all of my questions, it will change everything.
My Review
Delaney heads to Hawaii for her best friend’s destination wedding, but of course nothing goes smoothly. Her bestie is overwhelmed with pressure (and possibly hiding a surprise), and Delaney gets roped into keeping her best friend’s brother, Theo, in check. The problem? They already have a complicated, angsty history.
I loved that we get dual POV in this story because their dynamic really benefits from seeing both sides. Their situation is messy, funny, and full of tension, and honestly, it was so much fun to listen to unfold. The banter alone had me hooked, and their “only one bed” forced proximity situation adds even more chaos to an already complicated relationship.
Theo’s voice on audio? Absolutely top tier, completely melts you. The narration really brings their chemistry and humor to life, especially in those early chapters where everything feels like a mix of tension, awkwardness, and unresolved feelings.
Delaney is very much a “good girl” who is trying to figure herself out. She struggles with self-esteem and is heavily influenced by her parents’ expectations, which shows in how she questions even simple decisions. At times, she comes across as sheltered and unsure, which makes her growth throughout the story more noticeable.
Theo, on the other hand, is far more layered than he first appears. He leans into that bad boy image, but there’s a softer, almost golden retriever side underneath all the grumpy energy. He’s protective, stubborn, and very much the type to burn the world down for what he wants. His secrets add depth to his character and keep you curious about what’s really going on beneath the surface.
The tropical Hawaii setting adds such a fun, almost dreamy backdrop to all the chaos. Their dynamic feels like watching a dramatic, slightly unhinged soap opera in the best way. Between the banter, the tension, and the constant push and pull, it’s hard not to get pulled in.
This story leans new adult, with themes of self-discovery, insecurity, and learning to break away from expectations. Both characters struggle in their own ways.
Delaney with her confidence and upbringing, and Theo with his secrets and internal battles.
There are some really memorable moments throughout, from hilarious and embarrassing situations to surprisingly emotional scenes. The romance builds with a mix of tension and heat, and while the pacing can feel a bit slow at times, the character dynamics keep things engaging.
Things definitely escalate as the story goes on, with secrets coming out, emotions running high, and everything falling apart in a very public way. The fallout is messy, dramatic, and honestly hard to watch at times. Theo’s reaction, driven by his insecurities, adds another layer of conflict that carries into the second half of the story.
When the setting shifts from Hawaii to Colorado, the vibe changes completely. The small-town atmosphere brings in gossip, pressure, and a different kind of tension, especially as Theo has to deal with the consequences of everything that’s happened.
I loved the side characters (Sabrina especially her roasting moments were perfect), and the way the story sets up future chaos within the friend group. Despite all the drama, the ending does give you that satisfying sense of growth and change for both characters.
And honestly… the cat in the epilogue? Adorable.
Overall, this was a fun, dramatic, and trope-filled romance with strong banter, a memorable setting, and characters that grow through all the chaos. While the pacing felt a bit slow at times and I didn’t fully connect with every character, I still really enjoyed the overall story especially Theo and the audio performance.
