It could be fate or a bitter witch. Either way, someone is against them.
Alisa Roberts went to Manhattan expecting to meet the father she never knew. Finding her mate, though, that was one hell of an inconvenience. Especially when their bond cemented her curse. Destroying the witches responsible is the only way to end their spell.
When Declan Quinn answered the call of a golden dragon shifter, he rutted his way into a disaster. His new mate had a vendetta against witches. Unfortunately, his best friend happened to be quite magical.
When her fire and his ice clashed, they realized fate had a cynical sense of humor. Can the sins of the mother ever wash away? Or will Alisa and Declan pay the ultimate price?
My Review
This dragon shifter romance is filled with sizzling encounters, fated mates, and witchy trouble. Alisa and Declan’s lives are full of issues, but they both find their purpose. The story has some great tropes, like elemental magic, accidental pregnancy, and found family. However, the overall storyline was slightly predictable, and although interesting, the new adult characters were very emotionally cold. I did like the heat mentions and the curvy MC. Overall, the book was a good read with a really good ending.
Alisa is looking for her father, Duncan. She is a dragon shifter, but she was raised by her mother and grandmother. Of course, her dragon decided now was a great time to go into heat in the middle of the big city.
Declan answers a mating call from none other than Alisa in dragon form. This ice dragon is feisty. This story takes a whole new meaning to shift intimacy as it is done with the humans riding along and the beasts in control. But then they transfer mostly back to humans, so this gets a lot steamier.
Her past and first meeting with her father didn’t go as planned. Declan’s dragons are more mature than his human counterparts. Their fated mates are in denial at first, but then their instincts seem to take over, and well, the dragon parts know what they want. The fundamental parts of intimacy are different in this book, with pieces of the anatomy not entirely human. However, the scenes are pretty smutty.
Alisa’s priorities need to be revised. She becomes confused about her upcoming choices as she uncovers more truths about her past. This girl is out for vengeance regardless of the truth in front of her. She is very immature and has some daddy issues and genetic issues with curses and witches.
Declan could be smoother, less aggressively territorial, and sometimes strange. He isn’t inspiring the book-boyfriend stuff. Mostly, she wants to run away from his bumbling over dominance. Accidental pregnancy seems
To be par for the course in these stories.
This book gets action-packed at the end, and it’s totally swoony as well. The end kind of redeems the whole story.
I’ll admit I needed clarification on this story with the knuckled-headed dragon shifters. There were so many external and internal issues. Still, this read really came together in a heartwarming way at the end. This book is steamy and very new adult, but I did enjoy the found family and the characters a lot more when they started to mature.
