They make me feel like I belong for the first time since my parents were murdered. And when they touch me, my whole world sparks to flame.

My Review

Twilight of Embers (Dragons of Ember Hollow Book 1)

This story is a paranormal, new adult romance with a human mate story and a dragon shifter reverse harem. The story itself is complex, with many secrets and fated mates in the mix. This book intrigues me and has some similar tropes to Twilight. I would say that even though it is different, it gives me the same vibes. I love Hayden, but she is clueless and acting purely on emotion. But of course, the swoony, fiercely protective men are the main characters. This story ends on a cliffhanger, but I can’t wait to read more.

We are reading this book with Hayden. Hayden is going through something very traumatic, but it brings more questions than answers.

Then, we jump to the present day. She is on her way to Evergreen University.

Her first contact with people at the university is interesting. Knox is curious and popular, but I love that we get his point of view. The banter is fabulous in this book. Clearly, Knox is more than just human, but no paranormality is discussed, but I could hazard a guess.

Knox, the smoking hot school athlete and popular jock, is being oddly sweet to the new girl.  Oh, this gets better and better with each chapter. Now we have added fated mates. I secretly love that we know things that our MC doesn’t yet.

Ah, so they are shifters. I mean, it is in the book title, but I’m not going to tell you as it is worth the reveal. Also, I love that she doesn’t know about it yet. So it seems like we have three overprotective men, one professor in denial, and I think I’m missing one. But wow, what a reverse harem.

Even though his book is a reverse harem, it is give me Twilight Vibes. What a way to learn about the paranormal and the horde you’re moving in with, lol. There is nothing like a full-on battle to reveal the secrets and put a human girl into shock. Of course, one of the five has a dom/sub kink, and this book gets steamy. So far, it has barely been new adults, but we crossed that line.

Omgawd, this book ends on a massive cliffhanger, and I must read the next one. I absolutely love the tropes, and the way it is written perfectly strings you along. I love that the reverse harem isn’t all sunshine and rainbows; instead, there are internal and external struggles.

Midnight of Ashes (Dragons of Ember Hollow Book 2)

The last book was pretty spectacular, and I can’t wait to see what this one will entail. We begin this story with the courageous Hayden. Wow, this story is intense right off the bat. Gone are the days of her carefree, undeniable plausibility.

The rivalry between their hordes and the other is a political topic in this book. It is more dimension than just the fated mates. Oh, we finally got the bonds sealed.  This story is more damaged MC troubles, some very sizzling scenes, and solving the unknown past while dealing with their current predicament.

Hayden is stronger than she was before, but she is still so broken and vulnerable as a human mate to a reverse harem of dragon shifters. I like the elemental magic the author included, even if it isn’t shown.
The new adult content in this book is more alarming but also hotter. The dragon flying was amazing, but like any good story, this one leads into another.

Omg, as if the life-and-death situations couldn’t get any worse. The book has to end on one, and what a cliffhanger!

Dawn of Flames (Dragons of Ember Hollow Book 3)

We begin with Hayden. She has been taken by a sick political man. I totally didn’t expect him to be the culprit.

I like that we finally get an answer to the why of her past and her life. I’m not really surprised by this, but at the same time, I could care less. The sizzling intimacy scenes in this book go from the basic fade-to-black to more risky. I love that her shifter is different but similar, and oh, they made her stand out so much.

Between the council, the rival hordes, the police, and the leak, they have their hands complete, and this book is action-packed with matings and all the external stuff going down.  It is more political than I prefer and less of the initial interaction and romance. I kinda love the wealthy dragon shifter wooing his mate tropes they had in the first book. But now that she is there, we aren’t getting that. The reverse harem is sizzling, but the romance can’t be all in the bedroom. I didn’t expect the dragon heat to take place so soon, but it is incorporated before the end of the book.

Of course, the mean girl has to have the last say and cause issues for the happiness they finally find. Ah, it does finally get resolved, and Hayden’s Dragon is a heroine. I enjoyed the series’ ending. It was a good read.

Entire Series Review

Overall, this series was interesting. I enjoyed the overprotective male dragon shifters, the human mate story, and all the action-packed scenes. The sizzling chemistry leaped off the pages but was very adult in nature. I love that our new girl becomes the center of the series with hidden information and more trauma than was probably necessary. Still, the story was action-packed with lots of adventure and some very memorable dragon shifters. The external struggles they had were a lot. I enjoyed the initial romance and the cliffhanger endings, which kept me reading. Still, the first book was the best.  The second and third, while they included more intimacy, fated mates, and bonding, they also really promoted the damaged MC vibe. Overall, the series was exciting, and I did love the alpha men.
