When Lilianna of the Clawed Earth Pack fights for her freedom the last thing she expected was to be saved by a wild rogue.
Living her life to suit her parents wants and desires, Lils first naive attempt at escape is thwarted by a group of rogue werewolves set out to use her in their plot for revenge. Was her first taste of freedom to be snatched away from her so quickly or was the Moon Goddess looking over her by making sure another innocent soul showed up at the right time and in the right place.
Jax Mamila was a lone wolf, especially since his father was brutally murdered by werewolf hunters. With the taste of revenge on the air, his hunt for the hunters led him towards the Clawed Earth Pack. Ignoring his number one rule to avoid all pack wolfs, he followed his prey and found another prize entirely, the pack Princess.
Two souls driven by their need for freedom and revenge but completely innocent to what they truly need. Will they figure it in time or will they be separated by throwing away the gifts of the Moon Goddess.
“Sorry,” he offered, and I could see in his eyes he meant it, but it didn’t change the fact that with his first sentence to me, he had caused me more pain than I had ever felt, and I had been through all sorts of torture, thanks to my parents. I wasn’t going to tell him that, though. I wasn’t going to be the weak female he assumed I was.
“Don’t be, I’m a big girl.” I turned to walk away from him.
“Wait,” he shouted. “Your pack is in the opposite direction.”
“I know where my pack is, thank you. I have lived there my entire life, but that’s not where I am going.”
“Don’t be stupid, Princess. There’s at least one rogue still out there. You were already caught once.”
“Thank you for the reminder, but I don’t have to explain myself to you. You haven’t even told me your name, so I am not going to tell you anything. Now, run along, Caveman.”
My Review
This story is interconnected and standalone with The Rising Dawn Series. Even though it is a shifter romance, I love the new tropes the author has included. The rogue, the fated mates, and the fantastic heroine and adventure are hooking to read about. I was surprised by the brutality in the story but not put off by it. I didn’t like the villains in the book, but I absolutely adored our main characters, Lilly and Jax. Even though this is a new adult paranormal romance, it was enjoyable.
Lilly is the alpha daughter, a free spirit wanting to run in the woods rather than be trained in politics. Jax is a rogue trying to survive, but he isn’t feral.
Lilly wants to find her fated mate, but her family is damaged and stuck believing she is a pawn with whom to be bargained. Jax has issues with the recent loss of his father and mentor, but he is not out for vengeance.
Jax may be on his own mission, but he can’t resist the pull of fated mates, and wow, does his possessive, protective behavior shine through? He meets his match in Lily; she is fiery, sassy, and damaged but still loving.
As you read on in the story, the fated mates and their predicament make more sense in the storyline. I like the interconnection to the Rising Dawn Series. This book does get not overly descriptive but steamy.
My goodness, this book is riddled with danger at every turn. If it isn’t her, it is him, and neither seems to get a break. This story has some dark and gritty scenes characterized by brutality. The depravity of the Clawed Earth Pack Alpha is astounding, and I really hope he goes down soon.
I secretly love all the ties into The Rising Dawn Series. This book ends perfectly, and it is a twisted adventure to read.
The epilogue ends with a happy family; it is all I could have imagined for Jax and Lily.
