Minutes before my wedding, a phone call from my fiancé rips my life apart.
I flee to the Scottish Highlands, seeking sanctuary in Bannock, an idyllic town I visited as a child.
What I need is peace and tranquillity to mend my broken heart. Instead, I lock horns with the grumpy Scotsman who runs my hotel.
I don’t recognise him at first, but it turns out he’s Alasdair McIntyre, the first boy I ever kissed.
As a twelve-year-old, he was sweet, but now? His blunt remarks and cocky smirks infuriate me, while my comebacks only reinforce his view I’m a stuck-up big-city “lass”.
I came here to heal, not be provoked by this irritatingly handsome Highlander. Yet beneath his gruff exterior and admittedly impressive muscles, there are glimmers of another side to the man.
I mustn’t let my guard down. My heart is already cracked. If I let him in, I risk shattering it altogether…
My Review
Emily is a wedding planner, and today is her big day. Oh no, a jilted bride’s day just went from exciting to disaster. I love that her self-care included traveling to Scotland.
The hotel in Scotland is a family business run and operated by Lewis, Ally, and their other brother, whom we haven’t met yet. It seems like this particular hotel needs a woman’s touch or, more appropriately, someone as organized as Emily.
I love the adventures, interactions, and, of course, the small-town vibes. The chemistry between Ally and Emily is off the charts as they dance around the forbidden intimacy. I also love the second chance romance and the grumpy/sunshine nature of the characters. This book does get steamy.
There is always some external struggle for them to navigate as they also figure out the sincerity of their relationship and where I might be going. The family’s traditional food descriptions and welcoming characters genuinely take you away on this holiday.
Of course, at that point, their lives come crashing back to the surface, and it looks like their bubble of happiness just popped.
This book even has me teary-eyed for Emily and Ally. Ahh, the book ends sweetly. Emily and Ally, along with the new direction, small town, and new family, are the perfect combination for this second-chance vacation romance.
