My Review

This book is a nice mix of fated mates, academy, and new adult fantasy fiction. I love Fae and the Night Kingdom. Princess Lyra, a powerful heroine. Her family is loving and unique, and her current predicament is well understood. The storyline sucks you in, and there are some fantastic happy moments and some not-so-great ones. The characters and overall plot line are enough to keep me hooked.
It only had a few seasonal vibes and was different from what I expected from the book’s title.

Lyra is twenty, and it is time for her to be presented to the court and her duty to find her spring mate. She is a Princess of the Night Kingdom and glamoured with elaborate geas to hide her identity till her mates pass a series of magical tests. This begins with the Annual Spring Mating Revelry.

Her first foray at the meeting ceremony doesn’t go as expected. He was downright rude. But what do you expect from a nobleman?
Ah, so she is Fae. It. It is confirmed; it is not like I didn’t suspect already. There is lot of drama as Axel and Lyra have many classes together and see each other around the school. Axel is still obviously jealous, while Lyra deals with the emotional upheaval.

The bully part of this book is at the academy and doesn’t include romance. Axel and his girlfriend are the offenders, and well, there is no love lost between him and Lyra. However, her friendships are endearing.  There is some intense bullying in the story, and she is the strong FMC, but she overcomes it. However, at the end of the book, she finally finds a willing fated mate, and now I can’t wait to see where this goes.

The overall storyline of this book, with the rejection of a bond, Fae, and academy, as well as a substantial FMC royalty and the guise she is hidden behind to make her future the way it is supposed to be, is very intriguing. I enjoyed Lyra’s character and found her very relatable. The glimpses we get of the elemental magic are awe-inspiring. Still, most of the story is about her time at the academy with the rejected mate and the school bullies.

I hope the following story in the series is more fated, mate-centered, or magical, which is more interesting than the angsty. I do love the family tree in the back of the book.
