Nav Thomas never imagined life without his Lexie Loutke until a series of unfortunate events drove him from their home town with a pocket full of secrets.
Lexie moved on after Nav left marrying a man who gave her everything Nav couldn’t. But when her new husband tragically dies, Lexie is left to once again pick up the pieces of her life. Her therapist suggests putting herself back out there into the dating world, but Lexie’s not sure she’s ready to open her heart to the possibility of love again because love doesn’t come without the potential for loss.
The former “it” couple has barely spoken since Nav left town and now they must survive one long week together on a private island near St. Thomas. Will the forced proximity bring them back together or will Lexie and Nav learn to navigate life apart?
My Review
I have enjoyed each story in this series as the author navigated many tropes and heartfelt moments. I’m looking forward to reading this book.
Lexie is a widower, having recently lost her husband, and now learning to navigate life by herself. Nav was a big part of her childhood but never as more than a friend, even though she wanted that all-encompassing love. Her best friend and often protector, he loved her in his own way until he left to go find other things.
Nav found his joy, but he left behind a life of friends and his first love to do it. He was a military man serving his country as part of the air guard and is now a firefighter. I admire his perseverance and faithfulness in keeping tabs on those he left behind. He has had quite a heartbreaking life, losing his mother and battling his own demons. He couldn’t give his best friend the love and stability she deserved.
I’m noticing this book takes place a little more in the future than the others, while the story of the other makes sense in the series first. This story is more profound, but also, more time has passed. The book begins with a vacation with a friend before one of the couples ties the knot. Lexie is still grieving but trying to start living again. I like the forced proximity and uncomfortable adjustments they both go through, even as friends. So with them, both are grieving; what could have been. Where is this book going?
Nav and Lexie have quite a history as friends but also love each other secretly. The little things in this book add up as you see the true love Nav has for Lexie. Oh, steamy, finally, maybe it will cool off the insane chemistry. The happy bliss bubble gets popped as they return to reality. Still, miscommunication is the only factor keeping them apart.
Oh goodness, this story has the perfect ending. Is it an end to the series as well? But I loved the way it all wrapped up. Even though this book is about Nav and Lexie, we get to enjoy the other characters that are part of their family of friends and from previous stories.
