Welcome to Evermore Academy where the magic is dark, the immortals are beautiful, and being human SUCKS.
After spending my entire life avoiding the creatures that murdered my parents, one stupid mistake binds me to them for four years.
My penance? Become a human shadow at the infamous Evermore Academy, finishing school for the Seelie and Unseelie Fae courts.
All I want is to keep a low profile, but day one, I make an enemy of the most powerful Fae in the academy.
The Winter Prince is arrogant, cruel, and apparently also my Fae keeper. Meaning I’m in for months of torture.
But it only gets worse. Something dark and terrible looms over the academy. Humans are dying, ancient vendettas are resurfacing, and the courts are more bloodthirsty than ever.
What can one mortal girl do in a world full of gorgeous monsters?
Fight back with everything I have—and try not to fall in love in the process.
P.S. This full-length story may leave you with a book hangover.
P.P.S. This Upper YA/NA series is intended for mature audiences.
My Review
This book begins almost like a fantasy, transporting us to another time. From Summer’s perspective, the story starts almost dystopian as she describes a specific individual and the length she must go to acquire food in the borderlands. It’s hard to imagine what is described, but it is fascinating.
I love that we know the paranormal in the story from the beginning, but the rest is a complete surprise. Obviously, I failed to read the blurb and got sucked in by the book’s title and cover (not disappointed ). I love that she is so adventurous and doing what she must to survive in what is now her home. Her escapades take her into the shimmer, and just wow, it is a winter lover’s dream until she runs into a Fae male. The author renames them, also called Evermore. I love that we go from dystopian to paranormal fantasy with a walk thru a veil.
Wow, her big mouth and his punishment mean she now gets to spend four years at the Evermore Academy. Was he the Prince? This book is thrilling and action-packed as she finds herself in quite a predicament. Her fate could be looking better as this seems to get more complicated. I love how the author almost has a “Narnia “and “Katmere Academy “feel to this story; it makes it much more enjoyable.
The Winter Prince and her seem to have some insane forbidden chemistry and attraction, but they are enemies most of the time. Summer is a badass female mc, and I love her snark, determination, and mentality. This book is quite angsty, but the Prince seems to be a bully and a knight in shining armor. This book is swoony as the characters fight their forbidden attraction to each other. I love how the author describes things in the story.
The author throws in more to make this much more difficult. But then we encounter devastation; her world is turned upside down, and many truths are spoken. But I love how this academy story ended. I love even more that she is still human. I also love all the seasonal vibes in this fantasy book. The author didn’t skip out on some of my favorite parts of winter. I can’t wait to see where this goes in the next book.
This fantasy academy fiction is just the beginning of the enemies-to-lovers and forbidden mate story between Summer and the Winter Prince. This story has some bullying, unexpected moments, and an evolving human heroine who discovers she is more than she thought. I love Summer’s wit and sass, as well as her personality. I can’t wait to see what happens next, even though this story is very YA.
