Nine years ago, Vivienne Jones nursed her broken heart like any young witch would: vodka, weepy music, bubble baths…and a curse on the horrible boyfriend. Sure, Vivi knows she shouldn’t use her magic this way, but with only an “orchard hayride” scented candle on hand, she isn’t worried it will cause him anything more than a bad hair day or two.
That is until Rhys Penhallow, descendent of the town’s ancestors, breaker of hearts, and annoyingly just as gorgeous as he always was, returns to Graves Glen, Georgia. What should be a quick trip to recharge the town’s ley lines and make an appearance at the annual fall festival turns disastrously wrong. With one calamity after another striking Rhys, Vivi realizes her silly little Ex Hex may not have been so harmless after all.
Suddenly, Graves Glen is under attack from murderous wind-up toys, a pissed off ghost, and a talking cat with some interesting things to say. Vivi and Rhys have to ignore their off the charts chemistry to work together to save the town and find a way to break the break-up curse before it’s too late.
My Review
Magic, mayhem, and mischief in this delightful story about witches, curses, and true love. The adventures of Rhys and Vivi as they get into magical mishaps are funny, addicting, and full of surprising results. This book has it all and more, a fantastic paranormal romance with a cozy little mystery and many unexpected moments.
This gets very intriguing from the prologue. Vivi is nursing a broken heart in her bathtub with vodka and candles. Vivi and her cousin decided to play with the witchcraft while drunk and curse her ex Rhys and his whole line. I want more of these sassy witches.
I want to hate Rhys, but I feel bad for him once his family condition is described, and the author gives you spooky feelings about his family home. We get his point of view in a time jump nine years later.
I have to say I’m rooting for Vivi. I love this character, as even though she is a witch, she is very relatable. Omg, they meet up again in a spectacular fashion. Wow, I never thought I would be cackling to magical disarray. This book gets quirky as magic goes array, and the trio of witches and Rhys must also fix what has been broken. I love the talking cat. The many adventures are magical. Oopsy and, of course, steamy scenes are enthralling. We seem to get new layers to this puzzle as the book progresses.
This book gets steamy as Rhys and Vivi pick up where they left off in the past. I want the relationship to work out; I know that isn’t what this book is about. As we near the end of this book, more answers lead to more questions and spooky revelations. I like the skin-tingling ghost and her twisted thoughts. Now, what will they do?
This witchy romance and adventure end perfectly. Rhys finally gets his head straight, and he does the right thing. Viv is a badass heroine doing what must be done even though it is hard.
