Ignite by Melanie Harlow

Rating: 4 out of 5.

My new neighbor is a firefighter–and a scorching hot single dad–but I swear I didn’t set off that smoke alarm on purpose.

(And I was beyond mortified when he rushed in and saw me naked.)

Nothing happened, of course–because I, Winnie MacAllister, romance junkie and owner of a constantly broken heart, have sworn off men for one solid year.

Even protective men with chiseled jaws, bulging biceps, and deep brown eyes that make my breath come faster. Even former SEALs with broad chests and strong hands that make my skin sizzle. Even gorgeous, grumpy guys who have their hands full raising two adorable little girls and claim they don’t believe in love.

Until Dex kisses me one night, and I drop all my defenses.

(Also my underwear.)

He says he’s not gentle, and he’s right. He says I should take the dream job I’m offered in another state, and he’s right. He says he’s too old for me and could never be the man I deserve.

He’s wrong.

Dex and I might be twelve years apart, but the fire between us is the kind that will never burn out.

How can I convince him to give happily-ever-after with me a chance?

My Review

This story is sexy, swoony, and delightful; you won’t miss out on the grumpy sunshine characters—the unforgettable moments, the age gap in the military, and the firefighter romance. Winnie is a character, and I genuinely loved her pov and quirks. Dex is a grumpy single dad, but his heart gets thawed eventually. And between the unexpected beginning and the delightful ending are many emotional, frustrating, and exciting moments with these characters to keep you hooked on this story.

Dex is trying to be a fantastic dad, but balancing custody, his girls, and his job is difficult. He is a firefighter but was in the military as a Navy Seal. Dex has his hands full with two pretentious little girls. Luna and Hallie keep him on his toes.

Winnie believes in love at first sight, fairytale romance, and being a hopeless romantic. Of course, she has the hots for her new neighbor, but she has sworn off men. She has some unexpected visitors, and I love the comedy the author has woven into the story.

They have some very steamy moments, but this neighbor to possible lovers couple is taking it slow and not jumping each other the first chance they get. The story behind the characters and their relationship status and decisions is almost as intriguing as the romance in the pages.

I thought Winnie was the damaged one, but she is hopeful, loving, and patient. Dex, on the other hand, is a disaster. I love that she finally decided to make a move and go after what they both wanted, and yea, this book gets very steamy. I don’t know. Just something about this story has me wishing for a jubilant ever after. This book and the character’s stubbornness and loving side tugged on your heartstrings and made me teary-eyed.

I love the big romantic gesture of laying your heart out for the other person and having that swoony moment. This book finally gives me all the happy moments. I wonder about the title and how it relates, but I did enjoy this read.
