Former SEAL. Warm, whiskey eyes. Irresistible grin… And, her best friend’s heartbreaker brother.
“Just promise me one thing… Don’t sleep with my brother.”
Sure. No problem, right? Sophie Jones has worked dang hard to get her life together after a rough beginning. She’s got it all and wants to keep it that way. Trouble is the last thing she wants. Unless that trouble comes in the form of Asher Sutherland.
Home from the Navy, Asher is not the guy he used to be. Although, he doesn’t have a clue who he is now. The one thing he knows for sure is that he wants Sophie.
In his wilder days, Asher may have carelessly broke the hearts of his sister’s friends… often enough she’d never brought Sophie around before now. Neither Asher nor Sophie is willing to hurt Pippa (especially as she’s gone a little bridezilla in the days before her wedding). But, resisting the attraction may prove to be more challenging that either can withstand.
My Review
I enjoyed two of Carrie Thorne’s books I read as arcs in this series. Each book can be read as a stand-alone, but all interconnect a little. I want to read more of these lighthearted contemporary romances and decided to start at the beginning of the series with this book. This story is a sweet contemporary romance about falling in love when you least expect it and with who you least expect to. There are complications like him being your best friend’s brother, a wounded hero, and the forced proximity. But this story is a tale with a happy for now ending. I enjoyed the touches of steamy scenes mixed with the fabulous banter and family atmosphere this author has in this small town. Foothills romance is like no other.
This book begins with Asher counting days the day to his starting to work at the family business. He has some demons from his time as a Navy Seal; he was working to be normal again in the head by going to therapy and pushing his body physically. He has a great family, including his sister Pippa. He loves this small town and the mountains.
Sophia is Pippas’ best friend. She is a certified public accountant and very exuberant. She has dreamed of moving to the small town of foothills for some time and away from the hustle and bustle of the city. As she is moving into the Sutherland household for a little bit. Oh, she makes a promise to her best friend, but can she keep it?
This arrangement should be interesting. I do like the forced proximity. I also like that we get both povs. I knew that moment was coming, but what will they do about it. I love the chemistry they have. Not getting what you can have is the worst, and these characters feel it.
This book gets steamy as they get more connected and avoid breaking their promises. Oops, the secret is out, and the reaction is explosive. How will this end, happy or sad?
