Dark of Night (The Thorne Hill Series Book 2) by Emily Goodwin

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Everything has a cost.

I never thought the cost of falling in love could be my life. But when the Vampire Council gets reports of increased magical activity in the surrounding areas, they give the order for vampires to kill any witches they come across. I trust Lucas to never hurt me, but he’s not the only vampire in my life, and let’s just say the others aren’t my biggest fans.

While I’m busy trying not to be come vampire chow, something dark and powerful is surrounding Thorne Hill, infecting everything—and everyone—that gets in its path. If the darkness gets to the Ley line, then the whole town is doomed.

I won’t go down without a fight, but how can I fight something I can’t even see?

My Review

This book begins with an inkblot test. It’s a dream Callie is having of her past. I’m thrilled to continue with Callie and Lucas still enamored with each other. If you read the first book, you know Lucas is a vampire and Callie is a witch.

This story gets serious right away with an oops on the power scale for Callie. She is human, so I guess the 20 questions and strange answers are fun to read. Omg, I love Abbys questions about Callie and Lucas. This book gets steamy; they declare their love for each other. The Grand Conven and Vampire Hierarchy sniffing around are causing lots of stress for this mixed paranormal relationship.

This story gets hilarious as her powers take their own revenge on someone. Lucas and Callie can’t seem to stay out of trouble; maybe it just finds them. Some of the situations are vampire issues, demons, and Ley Lines issues. Oh yikes, just when I think it will all end happily, the author surprises us. Now I can’t wait to see what happens next for Callie and Lucas.

I love that Callie is a strong heroine. She doesn’t back down from a fight and uses her witch powers to assist her. Her familiars, as always, are a joy to read about . Lucas is a possessive, hot, ancient vampire. Still, he sure makes parts of this story steamy. This is a fun paranormal fiction to read with a bit of romance thrown in and insane amounts of action and adventure.
