Enough supplies to last me until this holiday is over? Check, check, check.
I love Christmas, but I’m not in the mood for merriment and mistletoe this year. I have a different plan—camping out at my lakefront cabin to nurse a bottle of wine and a broken heart.
It’s all going smooth, until my ex-fiancée, Jackson, shows up on the doorstep with the same plan.
There may be a blizzard outside, but I’m far more worried about the inferno smoldering between Jackson and me—one he insists on stoking every chance he gets.
Looks like there’s more than one way to keep warm this Christmas.
My Review
This Christmas book doesn’t start with a happy romantic couple. Instead, they are struggling after a terrible breakup. Will they reconnect or move forward apart? What will this holiday season bring in their small town cabin? This is a novella, so don’t be surprised with a quick story and, yes, a happy ending.
This story is part of the 12 days of Kissmas book series. Penny is jaded, not loving the holidays and all the happiness surrounding them, but she used to. She is arriving in the small town of Holly Mill, where she and her ex-fiancé lake house sits unused.
Her story is sad and heart-wrenching, but she is a wise woman to walk away, not that it is easy to lose your best friend and lover in the same breakup. Jackson is a rock star finally living his dream, but he left his girl behind in the worst way. I kind of want to hate him, but I know the story is one-sided so far.
She gets blindsided by her best friend and Ex but so far just over the phone. I wonder if he’ll come back in her life? I guess he does come back, and now we get his point of view.
Jackson is a changed man realizing what he gave up by not fighting for it, and he wants her back. But he must get through the cold armpits she guards her broken heart with. Can he get her to give him another chance and not mess it up? This couple has a lot of prior history.
This book gets steamy. I like Jackson’s plans. Jackson makes another big mistake, and I hope he doesn’t screw it up this time. This novella did end up happy.

Although this story was short, it was a sweet holiday read. I love that this second chance romance had a few bumps in the road. The rockstar and lifestyle issues were a surprise, but I did enjoy the second chance romance.
