An utterly gorgeous, heartwarming romantic comedy to escape with (Jewel Island)
Clover Philips is exactly where she’s meant to be – back home on Jewel Island teaching dance to the guests at the beautiful Sapphire Bay Hotel that she co-owns with her sisters Skye and Aria. Her life is complete, except for one thing…
When Clover left London she also left behind a devastating betrayal. She hasn’t been able to date anyone since, let alone allow herself to fall in love. What she needs is a casual fling to ease herself back into romance. And as luck would have it, the very handsome Angel Mazzeo is back in town.
The chemistry between Clover and Angel has been undeniable ever since Angel first arrived on Jewel Island six months ago. And though content to be her friend till now, Angel is more than willing to help Clover find her dating feet again.
It should be easy to keep things carefree when love is off the table, but when every moment is magical what started as casual soon becomes something much deeper. Will Clover and Angel find the courage to tell each other how they really feel? And is Clover ready to do the one thing she swore she’d never do again, fall in love?
Clover Phillips is a dutiful daughter to her late father taking part ownership in his hotel. She is also a dance teacher and has had no time in life to find love. But then she meets Angel, an assistant to the developer Noah. Noah owns the other part of the hotel and has really made it unique, plus he is dating her sister.
Angel arrives, and unfortunately, they are all booked up. Clover is surrounded by friends and family, yet she can’t seem to get over the past. The hotel staff is giving hints to her and him, much to her embarrassment. Things are awkward as Clover surprises him by bringing over the friends and family, so they don’t talk while staying at her place. But in the end, she decides to step out of her comfort zone. We will have to see what that entails.
This book definitely has the fall vibes with the way the author talks about all the autumn changes, comfy things, plus the Halloween festival they speak about. I love the descriptions of the changing leaves and the cooler temps. This book is set on an island off the coast of London.
For Clover in this book, many of her fears have the truth, but she hasn’t yet learned to live. She must take baby steps, and I’m thankful that Angels’ character is patient. The intimacy is very subtle. Oh, this book gets all sorts of funny and exciting as this couple gets hotel news and must sacrifice their dignity for things. This story is super sweet so far.
Clover finally reveals her baggage and damage, and it is difficult but not impossible to overcome. Angel is super caring and sweet. They have a lot of intimate moments, but it is very pg so far. However, some discussions are for a mature audience. The characters in this book seem to be older, not college-age, a bit older than that. I also love all the autumn feels it brings into this story. The author doesn’t fail to include many laugh-out-loud descriptions and images for your imagination.
Angel is beyond sweet but kinda a commitment phobia going on. I love the discussions. The characters have conversations from serious to funny and everything in between. This book does get steamy as Clover finally decides to move on. Angel takes a job and puts a strain on their budding relationship. I’m waiting for the tears from Clover as she realizes what she lost. Of course, they both get sad before they find happiness. I was surprised that he discovered it first. This book does end with a sweet happy ending.
This book was a perfect autumn read. It was filled with many things to love about fall, from cool nights and romantic walks to decorations and fun. I love how the author included all of the autumn things and feels into her romance story. I also loved the relationship she had built into the book with family and friends supporting each other. This was a slow burn, but it was also super sweet. The characters were funny and honest. The dialogue and some scenes was hilarious, and some were more heartfelt.
I look forward to reading more sweet romance by this author in the future.
