My Review
Veronica is applying for very specific science-related jobs when she accidentally crashes a Zoom meeting she definitely was not invited to. She’s stressed about her last paycheck, and the story opens with a conversation with her sister that immediately sets the tone. We don’t get a ton of background on Veronica, but we do know she’s not very social, lives in downtown Chicago, and is currently low-key obsessed with one of her neighbors. And by obsessed, I mean she knows his schedule, his outfits, and his face… but refuses to actually meet him because what if he talks and ruins the fantasy? It’s giving slightly unhinged in the funniest way. Her humor is very Bridget Jones–style, awkward and self-aware.
We also get Jude’s POV from the Zoom meeting she bombed. He’s in the middle of reinventing his company and realizes he needs her brain—even if her commentary on his slides was… memorable. He reaches out, gets turned down, and we learn he’s also working out of his apartment overlooking the Riverwalk.
This is such a rom-com. It’s witty, awkward, and genuinely funny—especially when Veronica realizes her hot neighbor is also her new boss… who she’s been flirting with and may or may not have a date with. I loved the meet-cute setup, the sarcastic banter, and the neighbor-to-boss chaos.
After a misunderstanding (because of course), they finally go out, sparks fly, and the neighbors-to-lovers vibe really shines. It wraps up with a happily-for-now ending that fits the tone perfectly.
