A one night stand.
A runaway shifter.
An unexpected claim…
I never thought I’d see her again after our primal, passion filled night together. But finding Peyton’s nearly lifeless body on my land sends a shock to my system. She’s on the run from a serial killer and looking for an ally… not a mate.
Danger.
Protect.
Mine.
My blood calls for her.
My mind screams to protect her.
My body aches to possess her.
Make her mine.
But Peyton is a loner, and she will never truly belong to anyone.
My Review
Peyton is a lone cat shifter, specifically a panther working in a shifter bar in NYC. She seems to have an erotic reaction to a customer, which begins the book’s storyline.
Nathan is the Silver Lake pack Alpha and maybe a wolf shifter. He is also essential in shifter councils. I like that we get his POV as well as Peyton’s. Nathan’s dirty talk is next level as this story gets steamy, hot, and altogether combustible. Some dom/submissive animal needs are going on through the human shifters.
I know the story isn’t about her, but I love the spunk of Sapphire the Pixie. She makes the story so much better. The author brings fantasy into the paranormal account with mention of realm traveling. Nathan’s job is a cluster of frustrating interactions from one thing to the next. It covers a lot of time with very little character connection.
Peyton’s horrors as she stumbles on spine-tingling scenes definitely cause you to connect better. However, this author goes from unique characters’ thoughts to not-so-great when the POV changes. Peyton is clearly a damaged Mc, and we discover the details later in the story. I do love the chemistry between the characters. The author weaves in surprises with the fated mates and their insane chemistry.
The suspense of who and why is teased throughout the story, as is Nathan and Peyton’s romance, a fated mate’s bond, but nothing is resolved by the end of the book. Then, the author leaves you with a startled ending, teasing into a continuation of this book.
