The Snow Wife:(North of Forty-Nine Book 1) by Rebecca Regnier

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Midlife isn’t too late, it’s just in time. North of Forty-Nine is when the adventure begins!

They say when a woman reaches “a certain age” she becomes invisible. But what if it isn’t true? What if power, adventure, and romance await if you’re brave enough to take a chance?

Widowed single mom, Bonnie Virtue, is trying to pick up the pieces. She’s feeling adrift and alone in an empty nest. In search of a second chance and a restart, Bonnie decides to take an Alaskan cruise since, lately, she’s not even brave enough to wear a swimsuit in public. Figuring the frozen northern climate might be easier on her hot flashes than the summer heat, Bonnie bids bon voyage to suburbia. Soon a chance encounter and leads her down a road less traveled.

Change of life becomes an understatement when Bonnie’s midlife turns into an adventure she never imagined. New powers come with ancient enemies, and Bonnie must decide if an impulsive choice at forty-nine was the best decision of her life or a deadly mistake.

Magic, menopause, and adventure await, North of Forty-Nine

My Review

Bonnie is on her later-in-life adventure. She is funny, menopausal, and single. She decided to take a cruise to Alaska, so jelly. But her last stop doesn’t go as planned.

The author doesn’t disappoint with plenty of references to chilly winter weather. Her rescuer and emergency accommodation don’t go quite as planned. While she waits for the weather to let up, she makes herself useful with her Never-ending optimism and baking expertise.

Saul is a strange character. He is quiet but steady and aloof. His domestic manager is depressing at best and mean as well. The author brings in legends and magic of Chris Cringle, and all of a sudden, this story becomes more of a Christmas read and paranormal as well.

Ah, a true Christmas miracle in a short story, but I love it when the heroine saves the day.

It was a cute holiday romance read with some known holiday characters and an unknown storyline, but it was enjoyable and wintry.
