My Review
Harriet is sassy with an unlucky streak, but so relatable. She has a strained relationship with her parents, but always gets invited to their Christmas event. I love the personality of her cat, Oliver. I loved that the holidays are her favorite time of year. She is very happy and sunny even on a bad day. She is also in charge of the antique shop her aunt left to her in Annapolis. After a very bad day, she comes home to a stranger in her house, and she is so quirky it is hilarious, but the description and dual narration are great.
Of course, he isn’t real; he is a ghost, and this is a retelling of A Christmas Carol. His name is Nolan. Oh, and he has a Scottish accent. This book is a little off the rails with the ghost’s perspective, but omg it is so fun.
She is very reluctant about what he is offering, believing she has done nothing wrong but yet her discord with her sister pulls at the emptiness in her heart.
Nolan is patient and easy in the ears, loves the incorporated accent, especially for his part of the story. As they get to know each other, she is definitely the sunshine one, and he is grumpy.
Her family issues are well discussed and might be the one thing that got her this ghostly companion. Is he fixing her, or is she fixing him?
I gave up on the audio, I just couldn’t listen to the back and forth and going nowhere in the stories. I did enjoy the narrator’s voices, especially that accent. But the purpose of the story was lost on me.
I made it to chapter 15 before I Dnf this book on audio. I may try to read it instead not sure yet. The male voice was nicely accented but hard to listen to while driving as it didn’t come across clearly and understandable. I’m posting the review for others who may have thought the audio was worth it but maybe read this one instead. I’m just getting into listening to audiobooks but this would have been better for me if the story progressed and if the male voice was easier to hear.
