Stay for the Summer by Violet Stafford

Rating: 4 out of 5.

The hot new farmhand that just sat down at my dinner table is the definition of why I swore off relationships.

He’s smart, charming, and just as handsome as he is sure of himself.

He is exactly the type I want nothing to do with—not as a fling and certainly not as something more.

Not that it matters what I want since he’s leaving in a few months, anyway.

Hooking up would be a recipe for heartbreak.

So, why do I find myself staring into those hypnotic blue eyes and longing for the feel of those sun-kissed hands?

No matter what happens next, I swear to myself I won’t ask him to stay.

My Review

Summer is moving back home after college, and she loves working on a family farm with her cowboy father. I love that she loves books. She has also just broken up with her boyfriend of two years and had her world turned upside down, as her family has been as well. She may be a new adult, but in many ways, she is still very lost and still finding herself.

The family meal time with the workers is filled with of found family vibes and cozy memories, but even she takes notice of the new farmhand, Ford. I mean, those blue eyes, muscles, deep voice, what’s not to love about that? I do like that we get his pov as well, and he is an educated man who says what he means.

Their interactions become flirtatious and slightly steamy. They can’t seem to resist the attraction, but she has her own damage to work through, and he is living in the moment. Plus, she is the boss’s daughter, so kinda forbidden. A list, some summer spontaneity, and fantastic banter. Summer and Ford really ignite the page whenever they get intimate, but he is still trying to figure her out. Meanwhile, her happiness is coming back while interacting with old friends like her bestie, Casey. The creek race was fun and lively.

Will Summer accept just a fling? I guess friends become more, and maybe just a summer thing, but maybe enough to help her find herself again as well. Ford is a wonderful guy, maybe thinking with his lips a little too much, but he is sweet and at least can talk in complete sentences.

The first date was very memorable but oh so dirty. However, this country girl can’t seem to keep her mind off Mr. Farmer, and she wants to play in more the just dirt with him. But this being a small town, things don’t end the best way. I’m anxiously awaiting their next date. Well, nothing like her inhibitions going out the window, and this book is finally getting steamy.

The season of Summer is leading into autumn, and the expiration date on their little non-titled fling. I don’t blame Summer for being mopey about it. Ford is a heck of a catch, too bad he doesn’t seem to want to settle down just yet.

Along with summer fun, the book has themes of broken family, forgiveness, finding yourself, living in the moment, found family, and many other life lessons. Summer is intuitive but also stubborn, Ford teachers but loves her gently while letting her learn and be herself as well. I really enjoy their relaxed, carefree nature, but the oh so steamy parts when they are together could have been left out. Most of it was the same scenes repeated anyway.

Summer has matured in this story, and she repairs her relationship with her mother. I love that, but we are so heading towards a last-act breakup. I know it’s coming, and it is going to wreck me. Ford is leaving soon, and unfortunately, their summer fling has a lot of feelings attached.

The picnics on the wildflowers are picturesque, but the breakup isn’t; it is very predictable. Does absence make the heart grow fonder or just cause it to break irreparably?

Yup, now I’m blubbering while I’m reading cause of the found love in this book, last act breakup up and new adult romance is so sweet and so heartbreaking that it finally got me. Ah, so her finally gets his head out of his greenhouse and realizes what he left behind is worth fighting for. I love that he does come back, but it isn’t just Insta-perfect. The epilogue, however, was a great ending to this story. The book ends sweetly with a nice hfn.

If your looking for a lovely country romance with new adult storyline about a college girl come home to work the on the farm, find herself and fall in love with just a fling with a hired hand. This story will absolutely be perfect, it is sweet, summery, and steamy. I love all the rustic vibes with touches of found family and even some mature decisions. They didn’t expect to find true love in their summer fling, and the last act breakup up while predictable was still emotionally moving. The ending of the book is sweet, and Ford, the lucky farm hand, did score the boss’s daughter.
