Our Chance: (Hope River Book 2) by Margaret Mcheyzer

Rating: 4 out of 5.

We started out as friends.
But as time goes by I find myself developing a crush on Jake.
I’m fairly certain our attraction is mutual. When we’re together we’re dynamic, our chemistry is undeniable.
But something is stopping us from acting on our feelings.
Resisting him is nearly impossible.
The problem is, I’m running from my past.
Jake’s the Sheriff of Hope River, and it wouldn’t be hard for him to uncover my secrets.
Do I risk telling him the truth, or do I run again?

My Review

This is Elle’s story. I was captivated by this enigma of a character in Hope’s River, the first book in this series.

The prologue of this book is vague, but Elle is running from something. She gets the help of two trucker angels and eventually lands on Hopes River.

Jake is a wonderful and intelligent guy. This town policeman of Hopes River is dedicated to his duty but also has a soft spot for Elle.

Jake and Elle seem to have skeletons in their closet, which prevents them from finding companionship. Jake’s story is tragic, but it explains so much about this protective cop. However, we have yet to see Elle fully, but the romance between them is blossoming.

This book gets emotional as an unexpected story moment hits close to home for the characters. Ah, Elle’s past comes to light, and this turns more into romantic suspense than contemporary romance. But only for a short time. The ending of this book is as sweet and steamy as one of Gran’s pies, and I love the community and feel included in the story’s romance.
