With his Alpha distracted by both his new Luna and the drama surrounding his sister’s mating, Beta Felix takes Vaughan’s place on a diplomatic mission. His determination to stay focused is sorely tested when his mate appears… or rather, doesn’t. He can sense her and smell her, but he can’t see her. Is it some kind of trick by another new enemy?
A servant at a fae court, Evalina has never visited the terrestrial realm before, but the element she needs to save her mother’s life can only be found there. Her books assured her that she’d be invisible, so why does the man with the startling blue eyes seem to sense her, and why does it matter to her if he’s in danger?
What else might be hidden in plain sight?
My Review
This book is part of the Rocky Mountain Wolves Series, and I enjoy the short recap. We begin this book with Felix, who is Beta to Alpha Vaughn on the Crimsontooth Pack. He is interested in all things supernatural, including other creatures, and soon gets sent to investigate some oddities with a pack under their protection.
Evalina is a servant to the royal family in another realm. She needs a metal for a cure for her ailing mother without signing over her freedom to the egotistical prince. She has some magic and can unlock things, and I love her hidden talent.
What a creative way to track a fae through a portal into their realm. I love this author’s supernatural creativity. The fated mates bond, interspecies curiosity, and the troublesome nature of the adventure in this story make it very interesting.
Evalina’s innocence in the human world and werewolf territory makes this story so much more interesting as she is learning everything they fresh eyes. Oh, things do get steamy as we get interspecies mating and new experiences.
I like that this book is edge-of-your-seat action and adventure with portals, worlds, and a number of creatures. Eventually, the storyline starts to make sense, and the fated mates part with the fae, and the wolf shifter does as well. The steamy scenes are hot and well done, but not frequent, which is wonderful. I like that the book is more focused on the couple, the pack politics, and the relationship. The ending of the book is sweet.
