“I am consumed by fire. It scorches my skin, my hair, my fingernails. There is no light or life, only pain. Excruciating pain.”
I’ve been at Aura Academy for over a month now, and I should be used to the way the thunder makes the castle walls shake. I should be accustomed to the teachers trying to kill me and Reavers attacking the school.
After all, I have the perfect distraction right now: Cooper McCoy. Tall, gorgeous Golden Retriever Cooper McCoy and our first date.
Except…
I have to attend these strange meditation sessions with headteacher Apollo Finn. And then I get these dreams about the tunnels leading through to the bowels of the castle.
I keep getting this itch at the back of my skull, like I’m forgetting something.
And then I hear a voice whispering my name…
Kira
Book two in the Aura Academy series, a vampire romance series set in a Gothic castle on a remote Scottish island.
My Review
We begin this second book in the Aura Academy series with Cyrus. He and his family have escaped but are hiding in a not-so-cozy farmhouse in a rural area. He doesn’t understand why Kira is not available to speak in his mind. My heart breaks for these three vampires.
Kira still hears Cyrus and is out of sorts. Still, she is trying to cope and become an average new adult in this castle academy. The author gets the autumn vibes again with the food and Halloween references.
Cyrus and Kira’s dreams are vivid; the next villain is his father. However, the last book was unpredictable, so I can’t imagine it will be that easy.
Kira is more of a damsel in this book, always neck deep in trouble and with no real trustworthy mentor to turn to. Cyrus is also in trouble, and their connection could be better. I miss the vampire and witch relationship that was developing. That, at least, had some heat to it. This new back-and-forth silent game isn’t interesting.
There are so many dangerous and action-packed moments in this book. They are both constantly fighting enemies. This book takes some interesting turns, and now Kira is becoming a whole different paranormal.
I see tidbits of other paranormal book themes in this story, but they are combined differently. I wouldn’t call this series “Twilight,” but it definitely has some similar tropes to those of other best-selling paranormal series.
