Welcome to the University of Morgana: Academy of Enchantments and Witchcraft. If she could make it through her first semester without killing anyone…that’d be great.
San Francisco Bay Coven has been torn apart and no one feels this more than Mika Marshall. Kenzie Kavanagh exposed her father and brother’s betrayal. So Mika is starting at the University of Morgana a semester late and praying to the Fates that she’ll be able to catch up and graduate with her class.
But as a witch with an undeclared specialty she’s trying not to bring too much attention to herself.
Because Mika has a secret and if she doesn’t learn to control her powers, people will die.
My Review
This book starts out interesting, but the storyline is very slow. I did like the dud magic, the damaged Mc Witch, and the setting, but unfortunately, I couldn’t get into the story. The magic dodgeball was the best part, and after that, the cliffhanger ending didn’t make me want to read any further in this series.
Mika has just lost everything—her family and her home—and now she is attending the University of Morgana. It seems she has some secrets of her own. This school has a gothic vibe to it. Mika has some awful anxiety, mostly because you know she is hiding something about her magic. But she is also very awkward in social situations.
Ah, there are the damaged Mc vibes and self-doubt. I don’t blame her, but it has defined this new adult witch. This book’s story reads slowly, but Mika is a traumatized witch who does blood magic and is excellent with killer plants and defensive magic but can’t do basic stuff. The thing with Kenzie and her mates is interesting, and I’m not sure where this new twist in the story will lead.
This story involves her fighting the magic inside her to not be dark, even though her instincts go back and forth. She is also finding out about her powers. Mika comes a long way in this story, and I loved the magical dodgeball.
This book ends on a cliffhanger and still has some unresolved issues, as well as a love triangle. However, even the blood magic was interesting enough for me to want to read the series.
