Allyn is the daughter of a ruthless woman, but she is also the pawn in the game forced into an arranged marriage with Angelo King. His family is mafia, and their activities are cloaked in shadows.
Her new bodyguard seems to ruffle her feathers and rile up her lady parts at the same time. Oh, twisted the bodyguard Maddox is more than just the bodyguard. But of course, Allyn doesn’t know this as she acts out.
The storyline has a certain love triangle as she is pulled between Maddox and Angelo. She may be required to marry Angelo, but her heart seems to want Maddox. Of course, their relationship complicates this very much. The angst and enemy to lovers between Maddox and Allyn are hot and steamy as they circle the forbidden.
The book does get steamy and more cryptic as you read. I do love Maddox’s morally grey character, but his communication skills leave something to be desired. Allyn goes from mafia princess to immature Stockholm syndrome just about every other chapter and Angelo is a piece of work.
An intimate affair with the bodyguard but there is more mystery than that in the book. However, this story is gritty, dark and dangerous. Okay, I didn’t see that twist coming and it makes the family rivals more interesting.
Allyn becomes something sick and twisted toward the end of this story. The book is spicy, but the characters are very hard to read. Is this bully romance or mafia romance it is hard to tell which theme the writer is in. Either way the back and forth of power and influence is confusing.
Really with another twisted addition to the storyline not that we didn’t see it coming with the sizzling factor. I love that he would burn it all for her but the way this love story persists amongst the drama, violence, and unexpected twists was more distracting than just a basic mafia romance.
Overall, this story is good, it has a very strong male character and a confusing female her naive personality to badass is there, but it is confusing for her to break character so much. I liked Maddox overall even if he was way more protective, bossy, and violent than I expected. The sizzling scenes are spicy, and the violence is for a mature audience. This mafia romance read to me more like a bully romance but then it twisted back to the original plot. This story has a lot of great tropes and twists. Overall, I give this book 4 stars. I think the characters were interesting and the overall storyline, but the plot was a bit long-winded and intense.
