Fractured Fates
Fate wouldn’t tie me to these men, would it?
Sent to the ruthless academy for magicals after years hiding from the authorities, I’m behind, poor and, with my pet pig in tow, struggling to fit in.
No surprises I’m picked out for ridicule by the other students – as well as the teachers.
And four men in particular seem determined to make my life here hell.
The man who caught me.
My grumpy, sharp-tongued professor.
The star of the school’s dueling team.
And the academy’s deadly heart-breaker.
They all find their own special way of torturing me, but I’m determined not to bow.
I hate them.
And yet when I’m with them, I feel like a fish on a hook, tugged in their direction, my insides swirling with a lot more than simply hate.
Is this magic or something far more dangerous?
Twisted Ties
Secret memories locked in my head, an assassin on my tail, and strange powers I shouldn’t possess are the least of my problems. Because now I’m bonded to a man I barely know.
My body may be pulled towards him, but my heart can’t forgive his betrayal.
And he isn’t the only one.
I’m sick of being treated this way, and I’m sick of not knowing who I really am.
No more secrets. No more lies.
I’m determined to learn the truth.
No matter what the cost
My Review
Fractured Fates
While this book hooked me initially, and I truly respected the author’s trigger warning for bullying, there wasn’t enough romance in this dystopian paranormal academy fiction to keep me completely hooked. I plan to read the next book in the series to see if I’ll enjoy it, but I don’t know where it will go from that cliffhanger ending. I did enjoy the supernatural, the mystery behind the main character Rhi being unique, and the start of a reverse harem, but it was a prolonged burn. Mostly, the academy was a nightmare for Rhi.
We begin this story with Rhi on the past. She and her aunt are hiding from something or someone. Present day, she still seems to be on the run. We get the first inkling of her paranormal with a tracking talent. We don’t know who he is yet, but at least he has a reference.
The man in black is an enforcer for magic. So he is the good guy, and the Wolves and Dark Prince aren’t. He calls in his competition Phoenix to help catch this wily girl. Apparently, he finally bargains with her.
Pip the pig is a great addition to this story. I love it. This gets even more intriguing as we get more information on her captors.
Wow, this dystopian society is quite different than I expected, but the academy isn’t.
The new kids at school are very mean. Lots of bullying is happening, and they are magical, so it makes it way worse for Rhi. The fated mates part of this book are eluding and mysterious. Even being the outcast, Rhi seems to have mates in high places and some very potent magic.
Rhi makes some prevalent and silly mistakes at this school, like getting on the wrong side of every popular kid, but she is also sassy and willing to learn.
Of course, after all the action and bullying at the school, the life or death situation brings our first hints and awareness to fated mates and Rhi. The hints were there all along but only defined after this. This book is seriously packed with supernatural talents and mean people. Ah, now we finally get our first hint of romance, and of course, it is the cliffhanger ending.
Twisted Ties
We begin this book with Stone. A mind-reading teacher at the academy. So Stone does have feelings of being locked away in that hard-as-stone facade.
Rhi is still adapting to her new circumstances. We definitely get an age gap and sizzling intimacy between her and the man in black. We get an exciting twisted reveal, and wow, I wonder if there are changes in this series. It has to complicate things cause why not have more drama? Life and death aren’t enough. The series is like the knife’s edge, just teetering before the insane happens.
This book is about discovering more about Rhi and the fated mate’s bonds. We get a sizzling scene with the reverse harem, but we still don’t know what’s so special about her. So, the two age gaps are the first to reveal the bonds, and they seem to bond in order of feeling.
The book is dark and gritty, even though we learn more about Rhi. It doesn’t have enough depth for me to want to read further. There is still danger lurking around her, and obviously more fated mates, but the mate bonding and romance are such a slow burn and only after a bunch of dark bully-style behavior. I’m done with the series. It just wasn’t for me. I enjoyed the mystery at first, but then once stuff started to get answers, and the danger increased, I definitely lost interest in the storyline.
The Arrow Hart Academy Series is a five-book series. I only read and reviewed the first two books before I lost interest, but you can find the entire series on Amazon.
If this is your type of book, you may also enjoy books with the following tags and categories: Academy, Reverse Harem, and Romantasy.
