A Very Merry Mistake by Lyra Parish

Rating: 5 out of 5.

A sexy cinnamon-roll lumberjack offers me a ride into town, a stay at his cozy cabin, and eventually his bed. All things I can’t refuse.

After several flirty glances and heated mistletoe kisses, we create rules: no strings attached and no falling in love. Agreeing to the impossible might be my biggest mistake yet.

I visited the small town for one reason only: to prove a point to my father.
Now I’ve got a fake boyfriend.
A secret to keep hidden.
And a choice to make that will determine more than just my future.

If you’re searching for a spicy holiday romance with a protective cinnamon-roll lumberjack and sassy heroine, this book is for you! A Very Merry Mistake is a standalone with a sweet-as-gingerbread happily ever after. This small-town contemporary romance has a dash of grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity, secret identity, and tons of Southern goodness. Fade to black is NOT included!

My Review

This story is a wonderful, holiday-smutty romance read with some fantastic characters. I love Claire’s independent streak, sweet disposition, and Jake’s gentlemanly cinnamon roll personality with the lumberjack exterior. The story is set in a small town that celebrates the holidays all year and has lots of winter vibes. The opposites attract, forced proximity, and only one bed set the mood for the charming romance. Tinsel the Cat was a sweet, memorable addition. I love the found family and, yes, even the smutty scenes, as there was enough of a storyline and other interactions.  This was a charming holiday read, and I hope you enjoy it.

I’m not gonna lie. This book has been on my tbr for a while. I adored this author’s autumn romance with Fall I Want and couldn’t wait to read more of her stories.

Claire is on her way to Merryville, Texas, but her rental truck gets her stranded on the side of a country road. She is disaster-prone, and this trip and her current predicament aren’t surprising. But at least she is sassy about it. She also seems to have issues with panic attacks.

Jake is a gentleman and lumberjack who is just helping a stranded woman on the side of the road. No room at the inn leaves her slightly in the lurch, but he is nice enough to offer her a place to stay. Yeah, it’s kind of suspect, but what other option does Claire have?

This story is super cute, with opposites, only one bed, and, of course, sassy banter. Jake will make your heart swoon with his protective mentality, gentleman like actions and Southern charm. We go from spicy to a little smutty, but at least there is a storyline in between the moments.

I appreciate that Claire has real-life issues, not just sunshine and roses; she is more relatable that way. Ah, there is the external predicament in choosing love or obligation. Which will she pick? I really hope she chooses him. This has been a sweet read so far. I love the cinnamon roll man, who is especially sweet to her.

Wow, I saw it coming, but not to that extent, and I love every minute of it. I love that this story isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, but a little hallmark-like. There is enough of a storyline to keep it interesting and friendly for a romance, of course, the holiday and winter vibes in it greatly help. This is absolutely getting me in the spirit of the holidays.

This book ends sweetly and unexpectedly, but I loved the overall wrap-up. It leads to another book in this series. If you can’t get enough of this small town.
