Rating: 4 out of 5.

He’s a grumpy single dad hiding from his past. Then a fearless stuntwoman crashes into his world.

Gennie Rivers lives for the thrill, both on and off set. But her wildest stunt yet might be taking that gig on a film set in Scotland – a chance to boost her career and escape her toxic Hollywood ex.

Nathan MacMillan, hiding from a scandalous past as a pop star, is determined to protect his little daughter Abby from the spotlight at all costs. When financial troubles force the protective single dad to rent out his land, the last thing he needs is a vibrant, young daredevil disrupting his carefully constructed peace – and invading his thoughts…

When Gennie saves Abby’s life and gets injured, Nathan can’t turn away the sassy bombshell who suddenly makes his home feel complete. Forced into close proximity at his rural estate, the grumpy Scot and the free spirit from LA can’t resist their magnetic attraction – despite their 12-year age gap and vastly different lives.

But Nathan must protect his privacy, or he risks his child’s safety and well-being. And Gennie brings exactly the attention he’s desperately trying to avoid. With the ghosts of past hurt and betrayal lingering, they must decide if they’ll take the greatest leap of all – trusting each other.

My Review

I saw this book ad and had to read this cozy romance.  The tropes caught my attention, as did the super cute cover.

Gennie is a stuntwoman; she is young and brave.  She has issues, including a flighty mother, a full-of-self ex, and fighting for independence.

Nathan is a single dad running away from his very public life. He lives in Scotland and has a lovely rustic lodge. His life is now about his daughter and a peaceful existence until he has to make a deal to continue to live and have funds to support his daughter. He hates celebrities but agrees to rent his land for a movie.

Oh, there is some scorching chemistry between Nathan and Gennie. Some issues out of their control put them in forced proximity in his lodge.  Nathan acts like a beast when cornered, and this man carries so much weight on his shoulders that he is grumpy, hermit-like, and soft, protective innards.

They unexpectedly bind over the forced proximity and an accident in the forest that leaves this robust and hard-headed woman needing a little TLC. This story is sizzling hot as all the reasons not to don’t stand up to their angsty chemistry.

His need to be a hermit overtakes his thinking ability, and his tongue makes a grave mistake.  He makes it up to her in his own way. And their professions of love and forever are so sweet. I love the family and happiness that burst off the pages of this story.

The book’s epilogues end sweetly, and we see a different side of Nathan, who is grumpy. Although this is a midlife romance, I liked the characters’ maturity.
