The Gratitude Guarantee by Jordan Millsaps

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I never imagined I’d be bringing a fake boyfriend home for Thanksgiving, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

What do you do when your mother is determined to pair you up with the uber-boring son of a family friend this Thanksgiving for a couples competition that she invented to make our celebration more exciting? The obvious solution is to bring my boyfriend—except I don’t have one of those, and the holiday is only a week away. Like I didn’t already have enough problems dealing with my demanding boss.

When my friend Zach volunteers to pretend to be my date, it seems like the perfect solution. All we have to do is let my family believe he’s my boyfriend, win the competition, and go home full of my mom’s delicious Thanksgiving dinner. Our no muss, no fuss arrangement is exactly what I need to get me through the holiday with as little stress as possible.

Despite having no time or desire for a relationship, the more time we spend together, the more intrigued I am by the fun, thoughtful guy I’m discovering Zach to be. But he’s been very clear that he’s on a romance-burnout inspired break from dating. As our relationship evolves and my world slowly implodes, my feelings for him only intensify. Will he ever be ready to give romance another shot?

My Review

Brenna is cynical when it comes to love, a corporate attorney, and now a glorified secretary.  Her lack of available suitor is an issue that is just in time for her family’s planned holiday traditions. I love that this jumps into seasonal celebrations so quickly.

Zach is looking for that chemistry with a future spouse and has yet to find it. So, instead, he is a serial first dater. He is such a romantic.

Ah, these gym acquaintances are the ones who hatch the fake dating idea to solve Breena’s issues at home.  The references to Autumn delectables are mouth-watering and put you in the mood for pumpkin spice as well.

Their interactions are friendly and pleasant as they get to know each other better. All the fond family traditions, forced proximity, and intimate moments hit you right in the feels for this story. I love that it is a mixture of romantic comedy, sweet moments, and chemistry.

I love that they take the time to be friends, experience new stuff, and get to know each other. Some of it is spontaneous and out of most people’s ability, but it is relatable.

This story does move from the autumn holidays to Christmas. So you get both seasonal traditions.  This is a sweet romance read with a complete cinnamon roll mc character. Zach is a thoughtful and lovely gentleman who does nothing for himself.

This book ends sweetly with a HEA ending.
