Autumn Nights by Willow Aster

Rating: 4 out of 5.

He’s a hot football star and a sexy-as-sin single dad. Zac Ledger is everything I never knew I wanted.

A prince on a white horse swooping in to save the day…

Isn’t that every girl’s dream? Maybe for some, but I’ve never expected to find my own happily ever after.

I’ve made one bad dating choice after another, and it doesn’t help that my only example of marriage is my dad leaving my mother before I was even born.

I’ll never be a believer in fairy tales.

So, imagine my surprise when I meet Zac Ledger at my sister’s wedding.

He is the total opposite of my usual type: gorgeous, confident, and genuine.

He’s also athletic, and I am so not.

They call him the GOAT in the NFL…and I didn’t even know what either acronym meant until my sister told me.

But there’s something about him.

One drink.

One dance.

And I’m ready to believe that there are actually good guys out there.

That is, until I overhear him on the phone and I realize he’s just like every other jerk I’ve dated.

When he hires me as his interior designer to come work on his new house, I resist, but he’s persistent.

My goal is to finish the job and keep him at a distance.

But I’m not prepared for the real Zac Ledger or the way he dotes on his adorable little girl.

And when the renovation dust begins to settle, I realize there is more to Zac than his NFL accolades, and maybe, just maybe, he will prove to be the one man in my life that chooses to stick around.

My Review

Autumn is at her sister’s Summer picture-perfect Nantucket wedding. She rubs shoulders with the rich and famous but is not looking for romance; she wants to return to Los Angeles to pursue her interior design career.

Zak is a football star with his eyes on a particular female. He is playing nice, hiring her to redecorate his Boston mansion. He is tall, muscled, and swoony.

Autumn’s initial assumption of Zak isn’t all correct. She gets a few things that make her react incorrectly, and now she is embarrassed.  Zak’s little girl is deaf, and this football dad has just made Autumn’s heart swoon.

They can’t go any further than friends as they have a working relationship with her, his new designer. I love the forbidden romance but also the chemistry.

I’m enjoying the found family vibes with this story.  The chemistry erupts, and forbidden becomes a reality as they toe the line between friends and lovers. Nothing like a rainstorm, signed truths, and steamy scenes to enhance their connection.
This story is a bit complicated, with him being a fantastic father and a football player and her being shy of commitment.

Their happy little bubble collapses when an unexpected guest shakes their lives and causes internal issues.  The best part of this story is how excellent Zak is with his daughter and the steamy scenes.
Wow, this book has me teary-eyed as the story fully realizes the miscommunication trope.

The story ends sweetly with them on their way to happily ever after. They do work out their issues, not the groveling I was expecting. The author ends the story way too quickly for the fantastic man she sets throughout the book.
