My Review

I love that this is inspired by the country song “Wait in the Truck” by Hardy featuring Lainey Wilson. I love this song but hate the sad ending. The author’s notes at the beginning of the book are very soul-touching, as most can relate. This book does have a content warning for domestic violence and PTSD, but I think the storyline was very well done.

Jericho is on his way to his new job, but the weather and drive are making him stop in a podunk town to look for a motel to crash in. He comes across a woman on the run and, of course, is chivalrous and offers his truck cabs. Yeah, it could be a nice thing or the start of a horror movie. She is beaten, broken, and running away, but I love the dual pov.

Reece is battered but not beaten. She is smart and takes the opportunity to escape, just so happens to run into Jericho. She is timid. So, her cowboy saver does take action like the song, but then the story continues.

Ah, there is the proposal for the marriage of convenience, but I do admire Jericho’s protective instincts, and Reece wants to begin again. Unfortunately, while this is a good read, it is definitely fiction. Not many women would be willing to do what she is doing or agree to do after that damage. But from a fiction perspective, this is a good read.

Wow, she sure has angels on her side. Love surprises them, as the forced proximity leads to feelings taking hold instead of just friendship. Of course, the fun can’t last forever, and it is very heart-wrenching to watch her say goodbye to the angels who helped her and the family she found.

Smart girl is going back to the people she trusts. Ah, this book does end happily, and our damaged MC comes a long way.
