Spookily Yours (Witches of Pleasant Grove Book 1) by Jennifer Chipman

Rating: 3 out of 5.

My cat is a demon.
No, that’s not a joke. An actual, real life demon. And he needs my help to break a curse.
But what happens when that turns into more?
It can never be forever, and yet… I’m falling in love with him anyway.

Spookily Yours is a spicy, open-door Halloween themed novel, featuring a witch and the demon who falls in love with her. This book is a complete standalone with a HEA guaranteed.

My Review

This paranormal romance is filled with autumn vibes, witches, and demons. I like the familiar turned demon housemate and eventually evolved into fated mates. This story is steamy, cute, and exciting, but the sappy ending was a little overdone. My interest was more in the overall storyline with the magic, forced proximity, and all the autumn festivities. I like the interspecies mating, Halloween mentions, and the grumpy/sunshine characters.

I love the artwork on the cover and inside the book. The playlist is fantastic as well.

Willow is the daughter of a witch, and she isn’t superstitious at all. The author does a great job incorporating the autumn vibes. This story’s small-town charm, coffee, autumn feels, and paranormal draw you in. It is the perfect read to cozy up with in autumn.   Willow and her sister Luna run the town coffee shop, baking sweet treats. They also have telekinetic powers.

I might not have had everything figured out, but at least I had coffee.  If nothing else, it kept me going.”  – Willow, Spookily Yours by Jennifer Chipman

Oh my god, there are so many perfect quotes in this book. Also, the shelter shopping for a new familiar is so sweet. Damien is the cat, and we get his pov as well. Ah, this gets twisted as the cat isn’t a cat, but we don’t know precisely what he is, only that he is trapped in the cat form. Ah, that makes more sense. The talking cat had to reveal it, but I understand now.

Now that Damien is in his true form again, the author added fated mates to the story.  But our little witch doesn’t know what she has gotten herself into. Damien is sweet, but I wonder where the underlying motives are. His reasons for being in this witchy town haven’t fully revealed themselves yet, but we get pieces little by little.

Oh, this book gets steamy and has all the autumn vibes. Now I’m dreaming of hay mazes, pumpkins, and everything else. This book gets more romantic from Earth to the Demon Realm. Also, the double-fated mates are a nice touch.

Wow, even in the demon realm, Willow has some abandonment issues. Once they finally admit their feelings and accept the fated mate bond as more than just bedroom times, this story gets really sappy.

This book ends sappy and sweet with a beautiful HEA.

There was nothing quite as magical as getting lost in the pages of a good book.” – Willow, Spookily Yours by Jennifer Chipman
