“Whenever I’m with him, I’m at the mercy of every touch. Every kiss. Every bite.”
What seems like the hangover from hell turns out to be even worse. On my eighteenth birthday, I find out I’m an aura, and I have to be around my kind, or my organs will explode.
Oh, and I have magical powers. I’m a necromancer.
But wait, it gets worse. I arrive at a creepy castle on a remote Scottish island to start my first term at Aura Academy, and my blood resurrects a long-dead vampire.
The last vampires were killed by my ancestor over one hundred years ago. They shouldn’t exist. Which means I need to keep this whopping great secret or face the consequences.
And now students are going missing, leaving suspicious pools of blood behind. Whispers of a vampire resurgence begin to circulate through the halls of the academy.
But it can’t be my vampire. Right?
Because the absolute worst part of all this is that I might be kind of in love with him.
Lethal, book one in the Aura Academy series, weaves a gripping tale of love, danger, and dark secrets on a remote Scottish island. Walk the ancient corridors of Dracul Castle and prepare to receive a deadly kiss…
My Review
This storyline is a weird combination between The Marked Saga by Bianca Sardoni and Crave Series by Tracy Wolff. I see elements in the story that make me think of both book series. Overall, I enjoyed this story and totally binge-read it. It kept me guessing with the tidbits of mystery and love the new girl in school vibes. The vampire romance adds some unexpected surprises, but I can’t wait to see where it goes next.
Kira wakes up to her worst nightmare as a new adult puking blood. If that doesn’t give you the heebie-jeebies, the teenage language might. They seemed to have many random events happening, but at least she had her bestie by her side.
Oh, she finds out she is supernatural in a shocking manner. She is a necromancer by family heritage and Aura. I’m not sure what that is yet, but it has to do with the Aura Academy. I have to say, the more I find out about this academy, the more intrigued I am. Kira has a personality, even with teenage slang, some serious new girl vibes, and supernatural changes. This should be interesting.
I do have to give props to the author for including many personal vibes in the story and the well-described descriptions. Leave it to her to have so much curiosity that she awakens a vampire. But some mystery and suspense is happening at the academy. She is still very new and naive but often seems to find herself in trouble. Then, the telepathic communication with the Vampire Prince is just too good. Kira is a hot mess. This storyline is intense and page-turning, with Kira living in a morally grey zone but still adapting to her new surroundings. The intimacy she has with Cyrus is quite romantic. I do love a sexy vampire, and well, the Vampire Prince doesn’t leave you guessing.
Okay, I binged this entire book in a day. This was an excellent story for an academy paranormal and new adult read. I look forward to reading more in this series. As for the ads that this is like Twilight, I didn’t get those vibes, but it did give me other series memories instead. I did enjoy the suspense and, of course, all the magical learning and supernatural characters. The vampires are intriguing, and the plot is dark and gritty.
