Things are about to get Wicked in New Orleans.
Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn’t your average college student. She, and others like her, know humans aren’t the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun… and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart.
Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her.
But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.
My Review
This story is filled with an action-packed big-city adventure with hunters, Fae, and hybrids. We follow Ivy and Ren as they have a work romance, and we get more details of mystery and suspense that lead us to the cliffhanger ending. I like the overall vibe of the story, but I won’t be reading further. I mostly read the book so I could watch the movie. A friend recommended this read, and while it is an intriguing start to the series. I prefer a little more magic and wonder in my fae stories. However, I truly enjoyed the interactions between the cantankerous Brownie Tank and Ivy. The sizzling scenes were almost expected, but the ending of this book wasn’t.
We first connect with our character in New Orleans in the heat of the summer. Ivy is a badass redhead. She is rocking combat boots in the heat, and wow, I can’t even imagine. Ah, we do get a taste of paranormality with Ivy and her friend seeming to be hunters. We also get an intro to the villains, the Fae.
Her average uneventful night turns into something a little more interesting as she encounters something other than her usual creature. He is tall, scary, and yummy. Ancient Fae, maybe royalty, makes her life a lot more curious. I love the brownie she brought home. He is sweet, and I can totally imagine him.
The chemistry between Ren and Ivy is smoking hot but also interlaced with some life-and-death action-packed moments. This story has some mystery and suspense as something is going down with the ancient Fae, The Order, and Ren and Ivy are in the middle of it.
The steamy club scene is scorching hot, but so is the friends-to-lovers thing they have going on with the work romance. Ivy is commitment-phobic; after having loved and lost, she is still damaged and grieving. Wow, their romance gets sizzling and hot, but so does the action in the book. Did you correctly guess who the hybrid is? I sure did not see that twist coming.
This story ends on a cliffhanger with our damaged heroine getting some unexpected surprises.

This book was recently made into a Passionflix film called Wicked. I know I’m looking forward to seeing the movie as well, but the book was a great read.
