Summer Magic (The Thorne Witches Book 1) by TM Cromer

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Life in a small town can be tough. It can be even tougher when you’re a witch whose magic regularly backfires. But Summer Thorne only wants one thing: to create the perfect sanctuary for unwanted animals. Nothing and no one is going to stop her. Not even the sexy sheriff who is determined to shut down her rescue center. And certainly not the laboratory where she illegally obtained her mischievous chimpanzee, Morty.

Sheriff Cooper Carlyle has one goal: to keep his town safe. That includes his stubborn neighbor, Summer, whether she wants him to or not. When the animals of Summer’s menagerie get loose and create havoc, he decides enough is enough. But things aren’t always as they appear, and Coop stumbles upon the secret the Thorne sisters have been hiding.

Coop and Summer suspect Morty holds the key to unlock a seventeen-year-old mystery surrounding the death of Summer’s mother. Now Coop is faced with breaking the law he is sworn to uphold in order to protect Summer and her beloved pet from a threat more dangerous than any of them imagined

My Review

Summer Thorne is a doctor of veterinary medicine, a collector of rare, unruly animals, and the town outcast. She is also a witch, but she does not show that off around her rural, small Tennessee town. Oh my god, the mischief and mayhem are pretty hilarious.

Coop is the small-town sheriff and a bonafide, not-so-smart man. It takes him a long time and many regrets to see what’s right in front of him. This is a prolonged burn with a bit of PG intimacy thus far, but it will get steamier.

I’m more intrigued by Summer’s wonky magic. However, the relationship between the enemies to lovers gets worked out, and the steamy scenes are sweet and hot. Things get complicated for them with some revelations, lost family, and unknown secrets.

This book isn’t seasonally related except for the names of the Thorne witch sisters. However, the paranormal and romance are vital in the story. This book has a happy-for-now resolution and romance between Coop and Summer. It is a new look at whom we assumed was the villain and a continued interconnected series tied into the next book. I love the found family and all the magic in the storyline. The animal bits are hilarious and definitely bring a lighthearted joy into it.
