Arise (The Rising Series Book 2) by Bethany Savant

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Nothing in life is ever as it seems.

Summer is here, and after a turbulent first semester, Blake is excited to spend a long summer in Vale with the Shifters, exploring the rugged landscape and her fledgling relationship with Grayson.

But when an unfortunate incident proves her power to be stronger than originally thought, questions will be asked, and decisions will be made that threaten the already fragile power structure of the Supernatural World.

Now, to maintain harmony, Blake must navigate the treacherous realm of supernatural politics, a world filled with hidden agendas and deadly rivalries. Her role as a mediator on the Supernatural Council is not just a title, but a responsibility that could cost her everything.

Will she be able to bring the races together and restore the balance? Or will she be forced to concede that her powers are not as controlled as she originally thought?

My Review

This book is a very different and difficult journey than the first one, more political, more new adult steamy, and more of her unique supernatural powers. Blake is different than any other paranormal you have read, and her story is one of triumph and tragedy, but she is a fantastic heroine. I loved her journey in this book, although I admit I had to put the book down and process some of it. But, omg, this paranormal fiction is addicting. I love the inclusion of all the paranormal characters, even in the fantasy-like settings. Blake and Grayson are unforgettable characters, and the entire story is unique.

Before I started this new one, I wanted to reread the first book, Ashes. It was just as epic as the last time I read it.

Omg, this book starts with a big-time jump backward. We begin with Grayson and peek into life before the academy and what molded him into the man he is now. Now, here is the prologue of this book, and after the last book cliffhanger, the ending. I’m dying to know what happens next.

This book picks up at the tail end of that last cliffhanger with Blake. Omg, as if her life couldn’t be more traumatic—just wow. This part is action-packed, but Grayson and the dragons come in the nick of time to rescue Blake. However, she still has to deal with some disturbing behaviors.

I love Grayson. He is the perfect protective, possessive book boyfriend, and oh my gosh, so swoony. Picturing Blake and her unique supernatural powers is quite the sight, but so satisfyingly different from other paranormal characters. I have enjoyed the slow-burn romance as they went from friends to lovers, but the new fated mate’s development is starting to heat up the storyline (like you didn’t already know it was coming). This is a more new adult now, and oh so hot and tender.

This paranormal academy story gets more fantasy-based with portals. I love that we get to experience a different setting and new characters. Vale sounds lovely and is described so majestically. This book is more political and way more steamy than the first one.

Omg, I didn’t expect this turn of events in this book, going from happy for now to what the heck. I love watching Blake mature and become more of a heroine. Her journey is addicting. Blake is a wonder to behold her supernatural powers and, of course, her empathy. I loved this book. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
