I read all 5 books as part of this complete series set.
This paranormal/fantasy reverse harem fiction begins interestingly with a human girl who has so much sass and attitude that she even captures the attention of the Demi-Gods. The academy part of the story was excellent but short-lived in the entire book. She becomes so much more as the story evolves, and it also evolves into a reverse harem with lots of sizzling scenes. But overall, the story read more like a never-ending soap opera of fighting and action with very little romance. They travel all over the place, and she and her mates are a continued theme, but they seem to have every enemy from hell to mystical Gods to fight against, and it was okay but so overdone. I enjoyed Marigold’s heroin-like mentality and the Demi-Gods being all alpha male and protective, but there could have been fewer gruesome battles and more romance. I give this book four stars because it wasn’t great, but it was okay.
The prologue gives lots of this away: Demi, the God of war, human heroine, and something about an academy. He is intrigued by this human girl who has the strength and fortitude to stand up to his powers. I love that he decides she should be his mate but doesn’t consult her.
Her name is Marigold. She has quite the camaraderie with her wolf shifter friend Jasper and witch best friend Circe, forming her pack in this dystopian-like world. She is also a hunter or maybe just an abandoned human in this supernaturally controlled world.
So that’s how this supposedly human girl starts going to a Half-Blood academy for species with God’s blood in them. Wow, this book gets steamy in dreams and reality. Her initiation goes differently than planned, but the questions add mystery to the story. What is she? What is her power, and why do all the Demi-Gods want her?
From outcast and punching bag to reverse harem, this story gets twisted and strange but exciting. I love all the strong Gods at her beck and call. Marigold’s life and classes are about to change in a big way.
Every academy has the heroine, the alpha, and, of course, the mean girls, and this book isn’t any different. Marigold coming into her power is very strange as it is everywhere.
When her paranormal is revealed, I realize I am too far off the mark in my guessing. This also explains so much about her relationship with the Demi-gods. This book does get steamy. We finally get multiple mates in the intimacy scene as the reverse harem evolves.
The nicknames are overboard. Just as this book has taken a turn for romance and our heroine, it takes a turn for hellish instead. Now, her story is even more riddled with action and darkness.
I don’t love this third part of the story. I don’t know; the whole hellscape doesn’t make me enjoy the story. It is more gruesome, there is more darkness, and she is another being entirely. I miss the Demi-gods.
From hell to an unknown void full of terrors. This story is genuinely taking a fantasy trip. I liked it better when it was on Earth. And we’re back to fighting. Most of this story is steamy or fighting. Of course, they do all of it all over the place, but we still haven’t gotten much of a happy ever after. This book finally gets to an end, and yes, it is a long, slow burn with lots of steamy scenes. However, by this point, I was done with the soap opera, which is this reverse harem.
