Charlotte’s volatile relationship just turned into more than she cared to handle. But she plans her escape smartly.
Axel finds his fated mate, not in the best of circumstances. She is damaged from her volatile encounter. He is very protective and caring. However, she is very human, and he is very much a dragon shifter.
Charlotte is like a timid rabbit, very wary of every good feeling. Axel has his work cut out for him, but I like the subtle ways she feels the mate bond.
This may be a midlife fiction story, but it still has some steamy scenes. The author adds a vintage feel to the book with the chosen verbiage: things like turning on its ear, wooing me and others through the book. After some tragic interference, they finally get their happy-for-now ending,,. Yes, this is an interconnected stand-alone. I love that the last few paragraphs of the story lead to the next one.
