Clare MacBride has her life in exactly the order she wants it. In a year, she’ll have finished her geology dissertation, though she’s no closer to figuring out the answer to one question that plagues her. Why does she feel stones pulse with energy?
A centuries-old curse, a mysterious faction of protectors, and a mythological godstone all sound like old world fairytale nonsense to Clare. It only takes one rainy evening with a silver-eyed fae and a handsome stranger promising protection to rock her world forever. With her life plans shattered at her feet, the lines of science and fiction blur as Clare is forced to throw everything she knows about the world out the window and look deep within her heart for answers.
My Review
I saw this book on Amazon and was looking for something Irish and paranormal. The blurb captivated me. This book is part of a series. We begin the book with Clare, a college student trying to get her doctorate. She is fascinated by geology, which I love. She has some supernatural tendencies that she doesn’t quite understand, but they help her with her interest in geology.
Clare’s surprises keep coming as the magical and supernatural add up. First, the stone, and now him. Blake is a strange enigma of a man, her protector but also interested in her. He seems to know things she doesn’t.
Clare gets some answers and leads us toward the title of the book. She seems to have a destiny she knows nothing about. Well, she doesn’t embrace her new reality easily. She seems to fight against any change, especially these supernatural revelations. I like the inclusion of mythology and legend in the story. Bianca’s friend appears to help her grasp her new reality.
The author adds tropes like bodyguard romance, quests, and steamy scenes to this book. I didn’t expect the only one-bed trope to appear in this book, especially with Blake being like a bodyguard and Fae. Even a night of sleep is an adventure, with many enemies now hunting Clare.
The mystery is solved theatrically. But true love between Claire and her ragtag friends and lover saves the day. This book ends with a lead into a future story. I love how brave and intelligent the characters are and, of course, all the legends and supernatural powers. The setting was also very thoughtful and genuinely attributed to the story’s drama.
