Thorns of Frost: Fae Fantasy Romance (Fae of Snow & Ice Book 2) by Krista Street

Rating: 5 out of 5.

When an arranged marriage is forced upon Ilara, she must find a way to outwit the Court of Winter in order to escape her demanded fate.

Being entered into the Rising Queen Trial is equivalent to death. If I win, I’ll marry my enemy. If I lose, I’ll marry another fae of the king’s choosing. Either way, my freedom is lost unless I find a way to escape.

Intent on fleeing, I train my new affinities and learn what’s needed to survive while pretending to vie for the throne. With my sister at my side, I know we’ll find a way to prevent my enslavement to the Court of Winter.

But the Crown Prince has other ideas. As Prince Norivun’s interest in me grows, I’m determined to avoid his allure, until he reveals sides of himself he’d kept hidden—sides that make me want to succumb to the innate need burning inside me.

Now that his secrets are laid bare, devastating consequences loom for me and him. Consequences that not even the powerful prince could have foreseen.

My Review

This book continues Ilara and Prince Norivun’s story, focusing mainly on their enemy attraction, her supernatural gifts, and political issues in the Winter Court. I love how much more heroic Ilara has become, and the subtle, steamy scenes were also sweet. Some revelations are revealed, and of course, they make this story even more addicting. I’m loving this Fae fantasy romance.

What will Ilara do after announcing her new affinities and entrance into the Rising Queen Trails? I love how she seems to be the perfect other half to the Prince.

I love that this book picks up right where the last one left off, with the same characters and struggles. Omg, this book would be a fantastic movie; it is so good and has all that delicious angst.

With the recent revelation, Prince Norivun becomes much more to Ilara than he was before. I also like that we get to see a different side of him in this story. Although the fierce, possessive protector is swoon-worthy, his cherishing side is panty-melting.

Wow, this second book gets steamy as they succumb to their attraction. The trials come, and our action-packed edge-of-your-seat suspense. But unexpectedly, the story gets more complicated.

Reading the glossary of terms would be helpful, as now I feel clueless. I didn’t expect that for one, like the what the heck, and for two, I didn’t anticipate that either. I’m not telling you what it is; I don’t want to ruin this action-packed fae fantasy romance for you. But this is an excellent read, even with its political issues.

In this last epilogue, we get Prince Norivun’s POV, and just wow. That last letter was heart-wrenching.
