For years I’ve tried to avoid the creatures that control my world, but one foolish mistake causes me to become bound to those very same creatures for six years.
After getting kidnapped by vampires and told I’m a witch, I escape to the Otherworld where I make the mistake of saying the Winter Prince’s true name out loud. Now I’m bound to his Court for six years. Labelled a threat to the Fae, the prince sentences me to spend the next six years at the infamous Hellebore Academy.
My plan is to keep a low profile—go to class, do the work, and become the perfect submissive. But that plan gets thrown out the window when I manage to anger not only the Winter Prince, but the Dark Prince and the Lady of Summer. They know my secret and they intend to use it to control me.
But things only get worse from there. Human students start to go missing, and an ominous threat looms over the academy. I thought being bound to the three cruellest Fae in the Otherworld was bad, but once I find out someone wants me dead, my life turns into a whole new shit show.
The only way to survive this cruel and beautiful world was to gain power, and I was determined to make every single Fae fall to their knees.
My Review
This fantasy fiction focuses on a hybrid, a fated mates connection, and an academy theme. All these things would be interesting, but it is very dark in themes with multiple trigger warnings and adult content. I did like the Fae royalty and the academy setting; however, almost all of that was glossed over in favor of sizzling scenes, a poorly explained curse, and a lot of hot and cold behavior. Millianna is an intriguing character, but the overall storyline could be better. This could be good, but it definitely needs more story and fewer bedroom scenes. To be honest, this was very sadistic, a bit of Stockholm syndrome, and way too dark. Overall, I won’t be reading any further in this series.
Millianna lives in New York City or what’s left of it after the Fae and otherworld beings have taken over. She is a witch with powers of persuasion. Turns out she is a shifter as well. She has multiple jobs, one of which is as a waitress and adult entertainment for the Fae in a hometown tavern.
She has some crazy misfortune on this random night. Ah, more is revealed about what she is. I have noticed some minor mixed-up wording in the story, so although it is intriguing, it makes me stop and reread again to figure out why the sentence doesn’t work.
The Veil and the Dark Prince are excellent hooks to keep reading. Wow, she travels through Fae royalty from the Dark Prince to the Winter Prince. Another bargain struck, but at least the Winter Prince seems more caring of this supernaturally talented female. Her nickname in the otherworld becomes Darling, and I can’t help but read with a Texas accent. I don’t know why.
Hellebore Academy will be loads of fun for her in the otherworld. The ownership of Millianna needs to be clarified. Every few chapters, she is owned by someone else. But apparently, the Prince has much to do and say about others claiming her, so he goes out of his way to make her his. She is stuck in Polaris.
This story has a very dark theme, with the Unseelie Fae showing their true colors and their stomach-turning ways. I would say I’m glad it has a trigger warning, but the stuff is well-described, so if you’re sensitive, don’t read this.
Oh, this book gets steamy as she gets a shifter-like heat. Her being a hybrid of sorts is quite interesting. Wow, that hunt was sadistic and enlightening. Millianna seems more of a plaything for the Fae than a strong female character. She has her moments, as the Fae have their moments, but I wouldn’t be making Alasdair or Cillian a book boyfriend ever.
My version of this book has some spelling errors. I don’t know if this has been edited again since. However, this storyline is mostly bedroom scenes and less academic and supernatural. Again, this story is dark and full of trigger warnings like blaring obvious ones.
A slight bit of myth, legend, and a curse come into play, but we still need to figure out what it all means. They really do get intimate way too much. This book ends weirdly.
