I have one simple rule: no boyfriends until graduation.
I’m too close to my goal of landing a full ride to college to get distracted now.
Besides, I blend in better at the skate park than I do in the hallowed halls of Savage Academy, boarding school for the rich and overprivileged, so staying away from guys hasn’t been a problem…
Until him.
Beckett Savage. Coldly handsome. Forever brooding. I thought he hated me. His attempt to get me expelled two years ago would leave that impression on anyone.
But lately, Beckett isn’t acting like he hates me.
He’s watching me with his icy blue eyes, showing up everywhere I go, and getting between me and any other guy who dares to look at me.
When he lets me see beneath his untouchable veneer, I’m shocked at what I find.
Suddenly, my one simple rule is becoming complicated.
Giving in to my feelings for Beckett Savage could either be the beginning of something great…or the end of everything I’ve worked for.
My Review
This academy romance begins with enemies to lovers and quickly moves into opposites attract ya romance; however, as it progresses, it becomes more NA. Luciana and Beckett are a wonderful couple, but the sweet male character isn’t what I was expecting. I love that he was soft to her, but I expected a little longer before the relationship and romance began. Luciana may be broken by her past, but she is a formidable female character. I love including different sports; the book follows them through more than just high school. Overall, this was a great read.
The story begins with her in middle school and quickly introduces Luciana. More back history on her would be excellent, but I picked enough to know she is strong, intelligent, and sassy. Beckett seems to be her nemesis, as they have had a few encounters but don’t get along. Luciana’s friendship with her teammates and roommates at Savage Academy is endearing.
Beckett goes to Savage Academy as well and is just down the hall. He and his buddies are interesting. I need to find out if they rule the school or are just the pompous boys. He is very focused on Luciana. I’m still determining what sport he is in, but she plays field hockey. Oh, apparently, Beckett plays soccer.
This may be enemies to lovers, but Beckett is acting like anything but that. I can see where history leads in that direction, but his hard outer shell turns off when Luciana is important to him. As for her, I don’t blame her at all for being confused. This poor boy is a whiplash waiting to happen.
This story gets steamy as their relationship develops more in NA territory than YA. I love the ups and downs of the relationship as they both discover they are broken people but strive to be way more than they are now.
The story takes on a more lovers’ side most of the way through the book, and the enemy’s part disappears. However, despite their opposites and sports, they complete each other. Beckett and Luciana are a lovely couple moving through the end of high school onto adulthood and into new roles as they age and grow up.
I enjoyed this book’s epilogues even though the male main character got sappy quickly. I wish he maintained his hardened exterior a little longer. But Luciana brought him to his knees and turned this stubborn man around. I love the playlist at the end of the book.
