A Recipe for Magic: A Sweet, Magical Small-town Romance (Moonbrook Magic Book 1) by K. C. Lapointe

Rating: 5 out of 5.

When they touch, sparks fly. Literally. But can she make him believe in magic?

Trixie Tompkins is done with guys who don’t already know she’s a witch. She’s had her heart broken enough for one lifetime. And then her childhood crush Rafe Greensbury walks back into her life, looking way too good. Turns out he’s inherited his grandma’s bakery—which was supposed to be Trixie’s—and he’s looking to sell.

Even worse, his touch sends magic tingling through Trixie’s skin. Which makes no sense, because he doesn’t even believe in Moonbrook’s magic anymore. He thinks it was all just childish games.

Which means she can’t let herself fall for him, no matter how he makes her feel.

Unless she can figure out the unexplained magic that’s sparking between them, and show him that it’s real. And convince him not to sell the bakery she loves.

But is it worth the risk to open herself up to a man who might never accept who she really is?

Welcome to Moonbrook, where the magic hides just out of sight.

Visitors see a cozy town known for enchanting festivals. What they don’t see are the horns, tails, and fangs. A veil of magic lets witches, sirens, minotaurs, and more mingle undetected with outsiders.

In Moonbrook, even the monsters belong.

My Review

Trixie is a small-town witch who loves her job at the bakery and the infusion of magic in the baked goods. The fate of the bakery and her love of carrying on the legacy lies just out of reach in a lawyer’s hands.

Rafe is an architect guy from out of the area but has inherited all his estranged grandmothers’ items in Moonbrook. I love the stipulations in her will. He doesn’t believe in the paranormal that surrounds this town.

As they get more intimate, many truths have to be revealed on both sides. Still, I love the fated maté’s combination of familiars and magic in the story. There are ups and downs in this magical mess of a story for Rafe and Trixie. This story does get Ya steamy with a bit of intimacy, but nothing overly deep. The adults are mature, but the story’s focus isn’t on intimacy but on the romance and magical nature of this fantastic town and its supernatural occupants.

But with each moment and new revelations, you can see these two growing closer together. I love the ending of this enchanting story. Trixie and Rafe, their familiars, and all the friends in this small town make this a magical read.
